MiniDV will come in over Firewire/1394 as .avi.
There is no reason to re-compress

I too, have many issues with Vegas 18’s stability. NewBlue crashes the system often, but that’s nothing new. However, I have learned that if i disable all other calls in the system, I can *usually* improve the stability.
There is also a potential for Vegas 18 to be having problems as this machine has Vegas 8-18 on it. Although none of the others are loaded, they are indeed, installed.
Killing all background apps, setting RAM to 0 (if any images/stills are being used), will help with stability.

Greg, I’ve flown a 3DR Solo for a fantail concert gig on a cruise ship that was at port. Happy to help if I can.

Even money says you’ve not got your laptop optimized. Even my clunky old Macbook 1.83 running BootCamp handles Xfades with AVCHD or HDV without issues.
Background apps? Antivirus?Either way…a faster/quad proc will be better, and yes…they’re available.

We store footage on a SAN, access from whichever machine we’re working on, but truthfully, we’ve all adopted our own machine. I store my layouts on a website so I can recall them wherever I go.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Cyberlink breaks a lot of things…
I’d reinstall DVDArchitect. You could also hold CTRL & SHIFT while launching DVD A and see if that has any impact (likely won’t, but it’s a step before uninstall)Douglas Spotted Eagle
