Digitizing Mini-DV Tapes
what should I request my transfer house what file or codec I want? the best; most flexible? AVI? .MOV? MP4? Thank you..

MiniDV will come in over Firewire/1394 as .avi.
There is no reason to re-compress

MiniDV will be DV-AVI. It will simply be copied from the tape bit for bit into a DV-AVI file. You don’t want it in any other format as that will be the highest quality and is very easy for Vegas to read/use.
