Activity Forums VEGAS Pro where do I install dX and vst audio plug ins?

I place all my VST & dX files in C:\Program Files\Vstplugins.
Then, in the Vegas Prefs (Options-Prefs-VST Effects), I use this folder location.

DX plug-ins are registered with Windows. They usually come with their own installer that does the registration for you. If not, I beleive you can drag them onto the Vegas interface and it will register them.

VST’s can be anywhere you’d like as long as you tell Vegas where to scan for them. The default location is: C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\

    Options | Prefs |VST Effects.
As far as DX plugs, they’ll install the dll correctly into Vegas, so you shouldn’t need to worry about locating them.

I am not seeing VST under preferences. I am using Vegas 5.0(lates version I think it is build C).
I have use amplitube Live before in it and T-Racks but had to reinstall on a new drive and can’t get it to work. there is a VST folder but Vegas is not finding it.

I can’t recall Vegas 5 and VST…sorry. It seems in my mind, VST wasn’t supported until version 6. There are VST to DX adapters.
https://www.dancetech.com/aa_dt_new/hardware/item.cfm?threadid=473&lang=0 is one place you can get an adapter.

Where is vegas installed vs where your DX plugs want to install?

I think the last versesions of 5.0 do support vst but I am thinking there was some special way that I had to install them. this is driving me crazzy.

It is real tempting to buy 8.0 there are a # of features that I have been wanting.

I think I figured part of my problem. It seams I was using amplitubeLE before(it has a directX plug in). now I am trying to instal AmplitubeLive 2 (VST). I tried installing the VST to DX adapter (demo version). I don’t think it is working right. I select in in the plug in manager and it has a couple blank black boxes that show up in the plug in veiwer. (doesn’t work with XP?)

I have been trying to install some free DX plug ins Blue Cat and Freeverbx. Freeverbx doesn’t seam to have an installer just a W98 activation. I have installed blue cat in the defalt folder but they don’t show up in vegas. I think I will try down loading the demo of Vegas 8 and see if I can get any of this to work with it.
