  • Fit to fill option?

    Hello,
I have a quick question about placing clips into a timeline. Let’s say that there is a 2 second gap between two clips on the same track, and the gap needs to be filled with video. Is there a way to insert another clip making it fit perfectly into that two second gap? I have been looking for a “fit to fill option”, but I am not sure if that’s the name of that option in Vegas.
What I have been doing so far is just placing a clip on another video track. Then I adjust its length and then grab it down to fill gap on the other track. But I am guessing that there might be a faster/more efficient way to do this.
    Thanks a lot!

When you place your insert fragment on a higher track (lower track number), you will have to adjust its length to the lengt of the gap. However, when you add your insert to a lower video track (higher number), then there is no need anymore for adjusting the length of the insert (assuming that you have set the level of the videotrack at 100%)…

Or WHAT YOU ARE PROBABLY LOOKING FOR: you make a selection on the timeline consisting only of the gap. Then you open the insert in the trimmer and select after context clicking SYNC TRACK VIEW SELECTION TIME FROM (or UP) CURSOR

Thanks for the double reply, Theo!
I tried the second option (right clicking on the insert and selecting (SYNC TRACK VIEW SELECTION TIME FROM (or UP) CURSOR). But nothing happened. On the trimmer window a portion of the clip was selected. But that was it.
Am I doing something wrong? Or am I just not doing everything I need?
I have the feeling that now the selected portion of the clip in the trimmer window needs to be spliced into the timeline, but when I tried to drag it, it didn’t work. How can I do that?
Or is there anything that I am missing? Thanks so much!

I think I just figured it out! I just needed to click on the icon that says: Add Media Up To Cursor.
Isn’t that right? If there’s a better way, let me know. But this seemed to work perfectly!
    Thanks a lot!

Double-click the hole in your timeline to create a selection.
in the trimmer, place the cursor at the IN point and hit “A” on your keyboard. Same effect.

After you made the selection of the right length, just press A as usual when working with the trimmer (make sure the cursor is placed at the position where you want to make your insert).

    Thanks a lot!
I placed the cursor in the trimmer window, hit “a” and it worked just perfectly. It is nice to know the shortcuts.
    I TRULY appreciate your help,

    Jorge
