I’d have them convert to .mxf for best output, assuming they’re converting the 8mm to an HD format.

Track 1=Main video/Opacity set to 50%
Track 2=Main video/Opacity at 100%
Track 1 is offset by half a frame.
Render to 60p HD for editing, or render this to 23.976 HD for editing, depending on which is your ultimate goal. Movement/how this was shot will play a big role in whether going straight to 24p vs 60p is your best option. Experiment with high/low motion scenes.Douglas Spotted Eagle

You should recall me saying to not use the DVD Architect NTSC template, but rather to modify that template. It’s not a good template to use. bit rate isn’t optimal, among other things.
FWIW, we customize everything anyway.
DVDPrep is a good tool to use for safe results.Douglas Spotted Eagle

Once FCP has touched the HDV files it’s exceedingly difficult to read them in Vegas with any number of workarounds. Convert them to .MXF in FCP for easiest means of access. It’s very fast.

If the line selection indicator is blue, it will always loop. If it is grey, it will not loop, but will play to the end of the selected area if playback began within the selected area.
I use I/O all the time, and looping is generally turned off, while “Collapse” is disabled.Douglas Spotted Eagle

February 16, 2009 at 2:28 am in reply to: what video format to use when editing? for vimeo movies….noob questions. You’ll always struggle if you find the Flip files too large to begin with. You’re losing a LOT of quality with these three downconverts. If quality is important to you, then I’d recommend not downconverting, but rather cross coding or transcoding.
The files from the Flip aren’t large at all?I’m confused by this statement.Douglas Spotted Eagle

You can:
~Create a selection by Click/dragging an area (thus defining I/O points~Double click a blank space to create a selection (thus defining I/O points
~Manually enter I/O points
~use the Overwrite function found in Vegas Pro 8C
And “ADD” from the trimmer to any of the above selected method points.
