Is there a way to set up a project to render out different formats one after the other. For instance, I have to render out an .MOV HD version then a non-HD version and a compressed WMV version of a project. Is there a way to have Vegas render them all in one shot, one after another. Would that involve a script? Can I open up vegas multiple times and render them all at the same time, or would that slow things down too much. I have a 64 bit machine with 8 gigs or ram and two 2.33 Ghz processors.

    hi,

in vegas 8, there is a script that allows exactly that. A Batch renderer script. So either you have the formats already available as templates and you just check their case, either you create your own versions of the templates. And then you just have to load that script, select the different formats, the location of the final renderers and let him do the job.

    Cheers,

    David

Use the batch render script that’s built into Vegas.
As long as you have pre-made templates for the different formats/versions you want, run the script, choose everything you want and wait until it’s finished.
I’ve used it when I need an AVI, MPEG-2, AC-3, mp4 and WMVs, all from the same project.

That is awesome. That is one thing I haven’t gotten into with Vegas yet, scripting. I found the option and it worked great. Thanks.

Scripting is one of, if not the, most useful tool in Vegas.
I’ve got several (mostly free ones – thnaks to the creators) that I use constantly and they save me a LOT of time.

Mike, any suggestions on where I can find some of these free scripts. I don’t mind purchasing some either.

Jason, right here at the Cow is a good place to start.
There’s also Vegas Downloads for more free ones (get the Vegas 5 version of the collection).
VASST & Edward Troxel have a collection of both free and paid scripts on their respective sites.
Ultimate S Pro and Excalibur are probably the best known of the paid ones.

Is it easy to convert those files for Vegas Pro? Thanks for the suggestions. I really like Excalibur.

As long as they were written for at least Vegas 5, they “should” work in Vegas Pro 8.
I say “should” because Sony apparently made some changes with Pro 8 but, as I don’t write scripts, I’m not sure what the changes were.
I’ll leave those comments for our resident script experts to answer.
Do yourself a favour and don’t copy every single one of them into your Script directory as it becomes overwhelming.
Find some time to try them all out, see which ones you think will be useful and copy those ones only.
I recently bought Excalibur and am still getting up to speed with it 🙂
I neglected to mention that Vegas 8 now uses something called Custom Commands.
