December 20, 2006 at 3:10 am in reply to: how do I speed up clips more than + 4x in vegas 6.0You CAN do it in Vegas but it would require velocity envelope and playback rate to max at 12X then render and do it again and again until you reach the desired time…OR you can get TIME BANDIT which will do the job in 1 pass and be done in just a couple of clicks and in very very short order.
If it were me, I’d definately use TIME BANDIT

Mike Crash has a Dynamic Noise Reduction filter that might do the job. it’s based on the filter of the smae name for Virtual Dub.

December 14, 2006 at 4:19 pm in reply to: how to 1) speed up more than 4x and 2) slow down graduallyI like to do this a lot for certain pieces and have found the TIME BANDIT plugin invaluable. Of course you can also do the 300% velocity envelope render it out and do it again and then use another velocity envelope to slow it down.
Of course you can also use PLAYBACK RATE in properies but you are limitied to 300% like the velocity envelope.
All in all Time Bandit really is the best to achieve those really fast speeds.
Check out Excalibur if you don’t already have it as it includes Time Bandit or you can get it seperatly.

what I have been doing is denoising then rendering as a wav and then bringing it into goldwave. I really haven’t gotten around to trying denoiser directly in goldwave as it has a fairly decent noise reduction but I wanted somethingI could use within Vegas directly.

Yep, it works great with Vegas and for goldwave or other apps after you use denoise render to WAV and bring into goldwave or other app.

I have the Noise Wizard package and although I really haven’t play around much with any of the tools other than the DeNoiser I can say that THAT tool works pretty decently especially for quick down and dirty noise reduction.
I had a wedding ceremony where my 2nd audio system was picking up alot of floor noise (never did before but I might have not set theings the way I normally do) and I needed some of it ofr the edit. The noise ws killing me but it took about 1 minute with the Denoiser an I was back in happyland again. It’s not quite as precise as Sony’s NR but it’s better than others I’ve tried an for the price I don’t think you can go wrong.
As for their email repsonse time, yeas, they are slow but they will get back to you (or at least they did me after about 3 or 4 days) Small company so i guess they just don’t get to it quickly.
IMO it’s a decent progrm for the money and so far at least I’m happy with it.
Your mileage may vary!

personally I’d just hand him the tapes and be done with it. He’d be better off with the original tapes and buying a 2 or 3 hundred dollar miniDV camera (if he doesn’t have 1. He can use Movie Maker or IMovie and let him do his thing.
Otherwise if you’re going to burn to DVD why not just put the clips in order split it as Gary suggested and burn 2 disc-why put chapters in? If he’s going to RIP it and edit it he’ll probably want to see all the footage thats there anyway. Even better, if you have a stand alone burner, just dump the tapes to that and burn as you go. split it at about an hour and fortyfive minutes-label them part 1 and part 2 hand them to him and your work is done.

use a very soft white glow-VERY SOFT :-() I have gotten some very nice looks with the soft glow and even a bit of gaussian blur but again very low amount-just keep playing until you get the look you want.

Take a generated media OR make something of your own in say photoshop-bring it in on a track above the video track resized and reposition it with pan/crop. Then on another track above that use a text media with a transparent background size and position the text to fit an bingo! instant lower thirds with text. BTW you can also make the text crawl from right to left togive it a real newsy look.

I don’t label my DVDs. I use an Epson R200 printer and it prints all of my DVDs (I use printable faces) and make my case inserts in Photoshop and print them on the R200 as well. I believe the price of the R200 is down to about 75 or 80 dollars now and sometimes there a rebate on it. I have and run 2 of them and even though it’s not a glossy face OR a thermal print it will handle anything I give it and does a very nice job of it. For less than $100 you can deliver a very professional looking product package.
