For Mini DV 24p material 23.976 is the correct project setting. Pulldown is dictated by the camera setting. Which pulldown? Depends on how you are going to finish and distribute.

I prefer traditional pulldown. Nevertheless, XPro and Adrenaline can handle both.

You can mix DV 24p and 24pA in the same project. You just need to make sure you adjust the pulldown setting prior to capturing. I would batch capture all 24pA at the same time to prevent mistakes.

Regarding the ‘jerkiness’ make sure you have the pulldown frame set to A.
Also, what version of Adrenaline do you have?
Are all clips have a starting TC ending with 0 or 5?

October 13, 2005 at 8:06 pm in reply to: P2: Does It Work for You?

I have crunched the numbers for a major cable network show. It is a 12 episode 1 hour show. It consists of 8 offline and 1 online.

The cost is huge and the workflow is rather involved.

For now, until P2 reaches 32 GB at $800 a pop or less, it is not the medium I would recommend.

I am also helping on a show shot on rented Varicams with 6 edit rooms and 1 ingest station. Working well and cost is less compared to the infustructure needed for an all P2 environment.

[gary adcock] “the footage to 29.97 from 23.98 (24p)”

Gary becareful. This is incorrect especially when you are dealing with film. 23.976 and 24p in regards to film are 2 different frame rates. You will ruin your audio sync if don’t differentiate.

First you need to ask the DP the frame rate – is 23.976 or 24p flat.
Then you will need to find out if the producers are paying for sync sound transfer.

If not they you got a lot of sync’ing work ahead of you.
Ask how the audio will be recorded. With pulldown or no pulldown.

Can you get a Flex File or not?

Anyways, you will need to understand Cinema Tools before you begin. It is far too complex to explain it here in one posting.

    It varies – usually 5000-8000.

Field order is progressive for most part (23.976p project type). It should be lower field first for DV25.

Make sure you disable Auto Deinterlacing for Sorenson.

There is a discussion in Avid’s forum that some people are having problems with Vegas originated HDV stuff. Somehow its not working with Avid. I have downloaded some material from the internet to check, so far material from Vegas is the only one I have problems with.

[Andy Mees] “are we talking FCP’s “Unlimited RT” vs “Safe RT””

Yes. FCP’s RT Extreme engine is resource intensive at any setting. Disabling it actually increases UI responsivenes – especially for long form projects. It works well for long, mostly straight cuts/dissolve type stuff. For everything else, I would not recommend it.

Cool! I could have probably made the MPEG one. I’ll pay more attention next time.

Media? Best is to recapture it. But that would take a lot of time. Either hire an night shift AP or swallow the jagged little pill and finish it in FCP.

IF you want FCP to fly – turn off RT Extreme. Yep – you read that right. This is the biggest hinderance to FCP GUI speed.

    Good luck
