    Running Adrenaline MC 2.1.6
I am in the learning mode coming from years with my faithful Discreet edit, so please bear with me.
I have been unsuccessful getting a good NTSC MPEG2 elementary stream out of Avid using the various techniques described in the manual and in other posts on this forum. I believe the general idea is to export or “send” a file to Sorenson (4.0.301.11 – bundled w/AVID) for compression to a DVD-compliant file. My results so far range from dreadful (blocky, jerky, low resolution) to merely nasty (looks like single field resolution).
I’ve been so frustrated as to lay off the sequence to Beta SP, fire up the old edit* box (not very easy to do now), capture at best resolution, and export from edit. This is a slow and painful workflow, but it gets me a good file to use with Encore. Obviously, this will not do. (You may laugh now.)
Can someone provide a step-by-step process to get a sequence out in good condition? The trouble may be with Sorenson’s presets, but it just doesn’t seem to do the job. Even old Ligos encoder with edit* seemed to have more flexibility.
    I appreciate any help.

I have made very nice MPEG2 elementary streams from Sorenson Squeeze (it uses the Main Concept encoder for MPEG2). Now I only work in progressive so there might be some field ordering issues with your workflow.

I out a PDF of what I do on my website for progressive projects, perhaps there is something there that might be of use to you.

Make sure you disable Auto Deinterlacing for Sorenson.

What bitrate are your sorenson encodes at? What field order?

    It varies – usually 5000-8000.

Field order is progressive for most part (23.976p project type). It should be lower field first for DV25.
