Actually, iQ can play uncompress Targa files natively

Because in Avid, any FX will effect layers below it. To affect only a particular layer, you must ‘step-in’ that layer (double click the clip using the red arrow).

Taht remain to be seen. I would not assume. Many editors assumed AE was multi threaded. It was not.
Also, being multi-threaded does not necessarily mean the application will do 4 threads. -

Adding a core does not necessarily increase computing 100% per core. This is because the core will share the same memory and depending onchipset design other resources like memory controller, cache, different system buses, etc, etc.
Also, codes must be written to take advantage of the cores – meaning the application must support more ‘threads.’
If not, the extra horses will remain in the stable.Ideally, you would have an increase of 40-75 percent performance on computing intensive task like rendering and encoding.

Actually, Avid has always been able to do this prior to Vegas’ existence – even HD in SD or vice versa.
Also, Vegas has limitations out on output to client monitor because the lack of hardware. With Avid, even Mojo can output 15:1s, DV, 1:1, HDV and DVC Pro HD out to a SD client monitor. However, Mojo does not output HD signals. (hopefully, in the future it will).

Look at your clips. The Starting TC values – does it end with 5s or 0s?
If not then you are missing the pulldown frame.

Not true. Compare the price of HP 9300 Opteron Workstation vs the new G5 Quad.
Configured the same way (2 GB of RAM, 250 GB HD, Quadro FX 4500), the G5 is about $200 cheaper ($5,249 vs $5,432). However, the HP comes with a 20″ LCD, SATA 2 and a built in dual channel SCSI 320 controller. That is about $1200+ value.
