    Hi Guys…

OK watching an Avid demo guy the other day…

they guy had 3 layers on his timeline… all of them PIP’s.

He added a color effect to the clip on v3.

when he adjusted it….it affected all 3 layers…
    why is this…

does the CC blanket the entire frame as opposed to the video itself..

or does it depend on the order applied?

    For example:

CC 1st then PIP you’d cc only the clip

    vs

PIP 1st then CC…you cc everything thru the alpha transparency?

    Thx..

    Alex

Because in Avid, any FX will effect layers below it. To affect only a particular layer, you must ‘step-in’ that layer (double click the clip using the red arrow).

He had to have had all the layers selected for the color correction to affect the picture in pictures.

If you apply an FX to the track above all the other tracks, it will affect everything below. This is nice as you might want to make an series of shots black and white or sepia, add to the top layer and with one effect, you’ve affected all the clips. To isolate this to one track, do as MPE suggested and step into the layer to add the CC to that one particular layer. This is also referred to as nesting effects.
