I think you have to go with the more expensive MacBook Pro because FCP 7 states that it needs the upgraded NVidia graphics card. I don’t believe it is supported with the standard graphics card in your first choice listed. Check out the minimum specs required before you buy. Good luck!

Unfortunately, Mini DV doesn’t have ‘locked audio’ like Mini DVCAM does. DVCAM locks the audio so it doesn’t drift. When I discovered this problem, I switched to using the DVCAM setting, but to work with footage already captured, I had to unlock the audio in the timelime, then bump it a few frames every minute or couple of minutes to get it to synch. Not sure how long your sequence is, if it’s not too long this could be a valid work around?

Have you tried trashing your FCP preferences? This did the trick for me when I was experiencing the same issue. It’s in your Users/Library/Preferences folders. Trash them then restart Final Cut. Hope this helps!

Try downloading, installing and using the Sony XDCam Utility and Codecs…that should provide files that work natively in FCP.

I typically use the XDCAM transfer utility, which then puts Quicktime .movs with the XDCAM codec–into a folder of your choice. Try downloading and using that?

Go into Capture Settings and reset all of the settings to a source drive with space available. I believe it also gives you that option when you get the original error message you entered?

Is there a way to ‘audio lock’ your source footage before bringing into FCP? This used to be an issue with DV vs. DVCAM formats.

sounds like you need another set of keyframes of the PIP scale and position, for as long as you want to hold it there. So A position, B position, B position, A position. Does that do the trick?

there are many things to try….you can use ‘normalization’ under Modify/Audio. Try it…if it doesn’t sound better, Command Z to reverse. You might try adjusting audio as high as you can before it starts to sound bad…then open more audio tracks and copy the audio on different tracks. You can also apply some of the FCP or Apple audio filters in the filters tab. Good luck!
