HDCamSR, if you have the 444 board, installed will easily crossconvert the signal to 422. 444 would be overkill for Bluray authoring anyhoo..

i believe hdmi is only 8bit (256 levels of each rgb color) and SDI can be 10bit (1024 levels). Everything thats broadcast is broadcasted in 8 bit.. for the money and if you are not grading i’d guess 8bit is fine..

April 15, 2008 at 7:19 pm in reply to: News: Blackmagic Design Announces Broadcast VideohubDoes the new router have support for “salvos” (grouped outputs), easily switchable master/slave (mode3 hopefully) rs422 or can it talk to another router control head like nVision? Without LTC support you cannot drive analog decks with timecode for duplication purposses.

Ok. I just verified that in FCP you cannot alter the gamma levels in “item properties” for RGB codecs like animation, though if you export a yuv out of AE like prorez you can. it doesnt like you can change the gamma levels but you can.
what is confusing me is that the other day i was getting wacky gamma out of prorez..??
btw mac pro fcp6x with CS3 production prem

try an adjustment layer in AE at .82 gamma. if that brings you into the ballpark its just a Gamma 1.8 vs 2.2 thing. also in FCP you can change the gamma on imported (video properties i belive) clips seperatley. I think apple is assuming all rgb to be 1.8.

I would recompress the video to prorez and that’ll slim down the bandwidth. Pushing Uncompressed HD over GigE creates alot of smoke breaks for me.

I wouldn’t go firewire, by its nature it has half the color 4:2:0. Component or SDI is where you want to go. You need a component (dig or analoge) signal to monitor properly to either CRT or LCD. just be aware that LCD’s do not properly show field dominance.

April 14, 2008 at 3:42 pm in reply to: Apple Prores 4:2:2 output is darker than QT Animation? This is bugging me also. On older QT files i can find the gamma value. but i just exported a RGB animation from CS3 on a mac pro intel and there is no gamma flag in the quicktime file. its simply not there. I guess apple is assuming rgb gamma levels which is causing pc encoder issues for me..

im with tom above. no audio in a mono summed output typically is a phase problem. which could easily be caused by a bad solder(sp? damn no spell check!) job by reversing the + and -…
