Historically NTSC is Lower Field First, we are always the one oddball in the world, problem with being the first. There is NTSC Footage out there that is UFF..

If you dont have the plugin you can try and remove the cadence which is easy or very painful (its never in the middle) i would simply blur the fields in the NTSC footage. My work around is an AJA FS1 to upconvert, it does a pretty good job..

I just keep thinking that we keep solving this by work arounds. my little brain keeps focusing on the gama and color atoms in qt files. it wouldnt be the first time apple makes a decision to change something and then the rest of us must deal with it..

Are your FCP Sequence set to “white” or “Super White”? Super white will place RGB (255) values at maximum component levels (near 800mv) leagal RGB (235) is equal to a component NLE like an avid to output 700mv (Max legal white).

additionally, avi’s crap out on exports that go over 4gb out of QT on a mac. with sd you can usually get away with it but hd is a problem.. most nle’s will accept qt wrapped files especially with the animation codec.

You might have analoge heads in the deck but i doubt that they record. typically if you have a dbeta deck with an analog mod (ie dvwA500) it will play analoge beta tapes but will not record them.. stick a Dbeta in the deck its better quality..

A bug in compressor, whoda thought… Compressor (i bet) just cant discern 24f tc so maybe its assuming its DFTC bt from the 00:00:00:00 code. the diff between DF and NDF over an hour is 3 sec and 18 frames, which roughly seems to be what compressor is doing. as i said before if you need the TC track you can just copy it from the original and paste it into the proxy. theoretically it will work.

You can check and edit the gamma flag in quicktime with “Dumpster”. That way you can see what AE is coding the output for decompression. If its 2.2 change it in dumpster to 1.78666(? not exactly sure of the # but if you dig around you can find it)

    heres the link from apple.
