Unfortunately for us there are no LTC outputs for mac with the exception of the aja io. you are stuck with pre striping a tape with fcp. it would be a nice feature to be able to print file source timecode to tape- Apple are you listening??

April 11, 2008 at 1:42 am in reply to: Pulldown Fileds TransferRate Help!!!

alot of stuff there.. why noy transfer to 24p?

“IMPORT: Should I import the secuence at 59,94 or at 29,97 ? fields or no fields ? Upper or lower ?
If I am not wrong I should not import the seq with fields because it is 59,94i to get the fields in DPX images.”

1080i 29 is the same as 1080i 59 (Sony is counting frames-Panasonic counting fields).. Fields Yes Top/upper for HD Interlace. If there are hybrid frames the dpx seq will have them also.

“PULLDOWN: Is it really necessary to remove pulldown if I am working with masks ? How will I put pulldown again for render? Just in render settings?
What happen with frame rate after pulldown ? Will I work in a slower frame rate during my work and I will make the correct frame rate again for output render? ”

Interlace will be harder to work with, can you cut in 24p or 23.98p ? 23.98p when you cross convert adds a pulldown so your deliverable is at 29.97.

“RENDER: AFter all this , which frame rate should I use to render the final DPX sequence? The same as I have received it ? 59,94i If I do in this way I imagine that the project where it will be imported it will be 29,97 or 30i so the scene will played correctly with fields. ”

Really i cant say it enough 24p!! interpret the footage and remove the pull down..

  • I had a little time to day and was able to confirm that from fcp on an intel macpro that the gamma or “gama” ala “Dumpster” on a Proz rez qt file render was definately 1.8 (1.798ish). I’ll give AE a shot tommorrow and see whats up. Something is afoot…

I know animation rocks, but a few months ago i did serious testing with prorez in regards for international distribution and it worked great because of the 1:10 compression ratio and its first generation lossless ability(absolutely no difference in AE). But now i see huge gamma shifts!! something has changed, now i gotta chase my tail and figure it out..

you can upgrade the dv bridge to a sdi capture card for about $300. that’ll fix your capture dillema. i’m still suspect on the keyspan..

i’d bet its the dual timecode thing. FCP is getting its tc reports from the rs422. Does this happen when you have a dropframe digibeta??

feilds or frames its all the same, interlace is no fun. Compessor isnt the best tool but you are taking HD and down converting to SD which sound like FCP is not doing a good job. you can avoid the interlace in a SD proj by conforming it to 23.98 but it may be to late for that. 2398 progressive dvd’s look great and there are no fields to deal with. i would create a clean SD down convert QT by exporting to sd and possibly adding a blur to the HD source before you export to sd to try and smooth the picture out a little. not alot of blur , just a pixel or so..

compressor if it has a good source will do a decent job.
