Anyone else notice the ProRez Gamma Shift
I was answering a post in the AE forum about gamma differences in prorez and animation in regards to AE. So i thought i’d help out and ran a test with FCP color bars and exported to both codecs. im seeing huge gamma issues with the prorez hq codec across both rgb and 422 colorspaces. I’ve run tests (a while ago) and prorez was rock solid, now i’m not sure if a QT update has screwed this up or what.
i’m running all current 10.5x FCP CS3 software 8core mac pro with Blackmagic HD card

Sorry, should have read the post properly.
I don’t have an answer but it’s worth bearing in mind that the Animation codec is 8bit 4:4:4 RGB lossless (when set to ‘best’). ProRes, is as you know, is 10bit 4:2:2 YUV. As such you are bound to see a difference but not a huge shift in Gamma, I wouldn’t have thought.

I know animation rocks, but a few months ago i did serious testing with prorez in regards for international distribution and it worked great because of the 1:10 compression ratio and its first generation lossless ability(absolutely no difference in AE). But now i see huge gamma shifts!! something has changed, now i gotta chase my tail and figure it out..
