  • I know this doesn’t answer your question, sorry, but I was wondering if you will have a sound person on your crew? Will you be directing the four camera shoot?

    [Andy Mees] “David

    Doesn’t that already exist? https://showmacster.com/

    Andy”

Thanks Andy. I tried showmacster but didn’t get it to work, I think because I didn’t have a camera connected to start a video chat session. If I recall, that software is also limited to showing files. That’s fine as far as it goes, but it would be cool to have real time collaboration where the folks off site could see changes to the timeline as they’re created (well, as they’re played). Perhaps I just didn’t use it properly.

Thanks Peter, these look pretty cool. Now how about something that would go the other way vis a vis iChat. I’d like to be able to simply send my timeline out over iChat for collaboratory reasons. I can do it now using two computers and a camcorder, but it’s a pain. It would be lovely to be able to send the a/v out live from one machine and I bet lots of people would buy such a utility.

January 23, 2007 at 5:03 pm in reply to: hdv captured as dv needs render?

You didn’t mention which camera you’re using. I know that the Sony HDV cameras offer choices on how you do the downconversion. You can output SD anamorphic (Squeezed in Sony speak) or a 4:3 letterbox. If you used anamorphic you should use the DV Anamorphic easy set-up and your file should have the anamorphic check box checked. If you output a letterboxed signal then use DV NTSC set-up and the check box should not be checked.

Actually, you really didn’t say what the problem is at all. What’s wrong with the file?

Perhaps you could use AJA’s free VTR Xchange program to capture from your Io, and then import the quicktime files you create into Producer? I’m not up on what kinds of files Producer works with.

[zrb123] “Hard drives in apple laptops are NOT user installable”

I’ve replaced hard drives in G3s and G4 Powerbooks with no problem. There are some excellent repair guides on the web, including this sight:

    https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/

It’s really very easy, but take all of the safety and anti-static precautions called for.

James, give us a clue. We don’t know what kind of machine you’re running FCP on nor how you’re trying to monitor the audio, so it’s a bit tough to make suggestions. For a start, check the audio/video settings to see if you can spot a problem. If that doesn’t help, give more details so someone can try to help you.

[Nigel Cooper] “I think it is impossible to write up an article with such enthusiasm for a product that doesn’t raise suspicions. I’ve only had about 8 weeks total experience with shooting and editing with an F350, but I’m totally hooked and am going to be buying one with a Fujinon lens later this month or early Feb.”

    Nigel,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us and best of luck with the new camera! I’m also a Fujinon fan when it comes to video lenses. There’s no doubt Canon makes some fine glass, but it sure would be a good idea for them to actually talk to people who use their lenses. Their ergonomic designs are decades behind Fuji. A simple example: they STILL put the return button on studio lens zoom controls on top so it’s almost impossible to check the return feed while you’re zooming. Incredible.

And Nigel, thank you for responding in such a calm and informative manner after my rather snippy post. You’re a gentleman and I will try to take a lesson from you.

    Best,
    David
