  • Providing Pro Tools Compatible Audio from 3 Camera Concert Shoot

    Hi

I am shooting a gig by a solo singer/guitarist on 3 x Sony DSR-450WSP’s and a Sony Z1 and I need to provide the artist with Pro Tools compatible audio files so they can mix the sound before returning the audio to me for editing. I am a cameraman of 11 years but new to production. I am editing the project on Final Cut Studio on my Powerbook G4(1.33Ghz/1GB RAM). I have Digital Performer 4.5 also.

My first thoughts were to send clean vocals and guitar from the sound desk to one camera and clean FX to another and send the artist OMF files from Soundtrack Pro but now feel I should record the whole thing separately in Pro Tools or on an ADAT to be on the safe side and take a guide mix into just one of the cameras.

I looked at buying the digidesign 002 rack so I could record in Pro Tools on my Powerbook but am unsure about getting timecode into the system.

Has anyone got any suggestions please?

    Cheers – John.

I know this doesn’t answer your question, sorry, but I was wondering if you will have a sound person on your crew? Will you be directing the four camera shoot?

    Regards,
    David

I am directing it and tieing it all together. Yes I have a soundman and our latest thoughts are to record the audio to ADAT and then transfer the files to Pro Tools. Are you a soundman? What do you think of this proposal?

    Many thanks

    Hi John,
Sorry for the delay in responding. I’m not a sound person, no. I asked the question to see how many hats you were trying to wear on this shoot. If you have a sound person on your crew who you have hired because you trust his ability, then trust his advice. I’d also check with the post producton folks to see if they are happy with the proposal.
