Sorry for the delay in responding. I’m not a sound person, no. I asked the question to see how many hats you were trying to wear on this shoot. If you have a sound person on your crew who you have hired because you trust his ability, then trust his advice. I’d also check with the post producton folks to see if they are happy with the proposal. -
Don’t know anything about it, but a simple google search yielded this link for a Sony tape drive:
https://store.ramplus.com/aiso40aituex1.htmlYou could sell the video card and get one that doesn’t block the other slot.
Backing up to tape systems is mighty slow. Restoring from them is…… just as slow. You could back up to other FW drives, or removable SATA drives (but you’d still need another slot for a SATA host card)

I use Catdv cataloging software. Searchable; can make small preview movies so you can view the footage even when it’s offline; you can print out a catalog with thumbnails. Lots of features.

The professional edition is 275. Regular edition is $79.

Very cool Jeremy, and $19 for a single user license! Thanks for the information.

January 25, 2007 at 8:48 pm in reply to: Anyone use one of these hot swap SATA rack mount devices?Does it have to be a rack mounted solution? I use the Firmtek four bay enclosure which has plenty of cooling capacity. Granite makes boxes with fans too.
By the way there was a post last week about hard drives not being a good medium for archiving. I don’t recall the poster using any kind of citation, just that they had read it somewhere. Just thought I’d mention it so you can check it out. I have no information as to the accuracy of the statement.

Take a look at this page and set the “Time Lapse” option to yes. Seems a lot of the Canons have this feature, and several of the EOS models will allow you to send the image via usb to a computer to record the images.

Thanks Ben. How quickly I forget these things!

Lots of great discussion about RAID on this thread, thanks everyone.
I’m using a Firmtek box and Sonnett card for my SATA II system. Been running very smoothly now for over a year with WD 500Gb Caviar SE16 drives. Very quiet and cool running. They’re 148.50 at ZipZoomFly.com with free shipping.
I also have a RAID using Hitachi 250Gb SATA II drives. They’ve been running just fine but be aware that many Hitachi drives come set to SATA I and the only way to switch them is by using a DOS utility from their website.
