vibration from the music, or from the crowd dancing?
Do the cameras you’re using have image stabilizers? That can help, depending on the music. I’ve shot some shows where the bass is so strong we had to turn the stabilizers off. Microphonics from the sound pressure was so intense it was shaking the stabilizer!
The more solid and heavy the platform, the better. Two platforms per camera is another good trick. One for the camera and one for the operator with a space between them. (They can’t be connected in any way for this to work). Of course if the floor is moving because of the crowd, the platform will move too.
Security around the platforms is important. One person’s camera platform is another person’s drink holder and leaning/sitting/climbing on jungle jim.
Heavy duty bracing of the platform can help (see floor caveat above) and most carpenters won’t understand just how solid you need it to be. Invite them to look through your camera on a tight shot so they “get it”. Once they do, I’ve never worked with a carpentry crew who didn’t try their best to resolve any problems. I’ve even seen them place extra jacks under the floor in a small club to help out.

This one’s not free, but there’s a “Point Distortion” filter in the CHV Motion Tracker collection that is designed for just this purpose.

[Steven Gonzales] “Once you find the Final Cut Application, click and drag the icon back to the dock, and that shortcut will again be available.
Don’t forgot, you always have Mac Help available (activate finder by clicking decktop, help menu, mac help. “
Or just open the program from your Applications folder, then open it’s icon in the dock and choose “Keep in Dock”. As for Mac Help….. all I can say is thank goodness for the COW!

[Stakelfarken] “for example – clip 3b shows up with a duration of 1:04;02. IN point: 22:26:26:15, OUT point 22:27:20;15”
Maybe you’ve just accidently set in and out points that don’t reflect the length of the original clip. Scroll across the browser and check Media Start and Media End timecodes.

Not free, but only $69. $299 gets you their entire collection.

[Fred Grossberg] “I’ve tried trashing my prefs, but each time I do that, FCP Rescue keeps saying my prefs are corrupt.”
Fred,
Are you trashing prefs and then reinstalling a saved version from FCP Rescue? If that’s the case, it may be that the file was already corrupt when you saved it via FCP Rescue, and you are now reinstalling a corrupt file.
Why not try trashing the prefs and letting final cut create a new one….. AFTER you clone your system drive as per DRW’s suggestion.

You’ve gotten some good suggestions, just a couple of other thoughts to keep in mind:
Tests at barefeats.com show some interesting comparisons between 5400 and 7200 rpm drives. Walter is right to point out how much drives slow down when they fill up, however that very reason is pointed out in the barefeats test to show that larger capacity 5400 rpm drives can often be faster in real world situations when you are sticking to portable designs. It comes down to how much you want to spend.
If you can only afford single drives and you want the 2.5″ form factor, I think you’re limited to 100GB if you want a 7200rpm drive. You can get a 160GB 5400rpm drive for less money. If you have say, 70 or 80GB of data already on the drive, the 5400 drive is actually faster at that point, since it’s a little over half full while the 100GB drive is at 70 or 80 percent capacity.
I went with a 160GB, 5400rpm Hitachi drive in a transinternational Minixpress box:
https://www.transintl.com/store/category.cfm?category=2643It’s got USB 2, Firewire 400 and Firewire 800 interfaces. You can buy the case bare, or they sell a selection of drives installed. It was actually cheaper to buy the drive from them. It’s also bus powered which I love. No power brick to carry around, and no need for an a/c source to be able to use it.
The G-Raid mini is also a great choice if you have the money. Lacie also makes a bus powered, two drive array. These are great as you can have both large capacity and 7200rpm drives. They are, naturaly, a bit bigger and heavier.
Firewire 800 makes a BIG difference in read/write speeds, but only the latest Macbook Pro machines have a FW800 port. You can get an expresscard adaptor, but you may not be able to use a bus powered drive through it. I bought a cardbus card for my Powerbook G4 and it does NOT power the drive.

[Sean Davison] “Im trying to Digitise some HDV footage and up res it to DVC Pro HD through the component inputs on the Breakout Box”
[Sean Davison] “I cant get the BO box to upconvert the Component signal”
Correct me if I’m off base here guys, but since Sean says he’s trying to get footage into the computer via component analog, that would point to a Kona LH/LHe board. That board does not upconvert, does it?
