Okay, so the very simple solution didn’t work for that one shot. As you probably know, there are several other ways to letterbox a shot. I’d say go fix that shot and thank Apple for creating the widescreen filter that made letterboxing every other shot so darned easy.
Just think, in the time you took to write your post you could have made many creative decisions that could have netted you many pats on the back from your clients. And, in the time I spent writing this response I could have gotten five more minutes of TV in…

Not necessarily… I would say that might depend on the original source and what he’ll be editing. If he’s editing DV, then you are right, but what if he’s going to be editing 720 x 486 D1??? Then the choice is a bit tougher.

Digital tapes can be degaussed (demagnetized) by a strong electromagnet just like analog tapes. Most older sound facilites/studios have fairly robust degaussers. I’d call and ask…

When playing back rendered previews at “Best” quality, while it appears that I do have full speed playback, it seems to display single-field resolution as though it is intentionally dropping down. Is this the way its supposed to work, or am I missing something?
BTW, even at single-field resolution its still very nice, and it an unexpected bonus for this long-time Combustion user who could never see his stuff before on a real monitor.

In either case, you can easily clone your boot drive to an external firewire drive and install the each peice of software on its own bootable system drive.

HD isn’t even close.
Just as you have seen digital still cameras climbing from 1 megapixels all the way to 11 megapixels in a very short time, you will eventually see full motion digital video that has the resolution, dynamic range, and other characteristics of film. But its not easy, certainly not as easy as still imagery, and its certainly not cheap. And, keep in mind, it won’t be going onto tape, it will have to be captured direct to huge hard drive arrays. So, its not gonna be very portable either.
On the other hand, there’s a heck of a lot of digital film scanning at only 2K resolution that the public accepts. And, they’re doing a good bit of 4K scanning now, and they’ll go up 6K soon, still not film resolution. But the motion picture industry may not be inclined to spend the dough to go all the way up to true film resolution if the audience can’t tell the difference.

The answer is yes, and no. Actually, the final look of the film starts in pre-production in terms of set design and colors. It is then realized in lighting, camera, choice of film stock, and in post colorization. Remember, film has far greater latitude than video, and it is shot and processed to allow its maximum dynamic range to be used in the grading/colorization process.

Sounds like you have an unecessary keyframe at the very end of the motion trk for your problem titles. Delete it and that should fix your problem.
