No, not if your objective is indeed split audio as you stated. Matt was a bit unclear on this one issue. Music and effects should be hard-panned to one channel and VO hard-panned to the other.

Your link to the still doesn’t work, and you have given no details about your encode settings, i.e. bitrate and whether you’ve encoded audio as AC3 etc. From the little info you have included I would surmize that you are making the same error with each of the encoders, most likely using a bitrate that is too high.

FCP Studio comes with a variety of tutorials that will get you well on your way with all of the apps in the software suite and the integration bewteen them.

Uh, there are just a few details you left out… No one can help you if you don’t tell us what software you’re using for authoring and encoding.
And, while mastering the art of DVD creation its a very good idea to use DVD-RW discs to test out your creations so you don’t burn coasters…

Just to be fair, there have been bad reports regarding the Dell monitor as well from several seasoned vets who know what they’re looking for and talking about. Its a tricky business, and one that requires using your own eyeballs. No one can tell you if you’re going tp be pleased with a monitor until you look at it yourself.

Paul,
The conform process is for outputting HDV back to the HDV camera or to an HDV deck. In my limited experience doing that, it seems to take about six times realtime. If you are editing native HDV on the timeline, and outputting that to HDCAM via HDSDI, you should probably render the entire sequence out to HDCAM in advance, simply to avoid the posibility of dropped frames. There are complex calculations going on in real time when playing back HDV, and I think you actually save time by rendering, because you’ll be confident that everything will be right when going to tape. If someone else thinks the render is not necessary please feel free to make that point…

You read correctly… Apparently Apple just hasn’t got around to RT support for JPEG yet.
