Every time you double the number of drives in a RAID array you virtually double the throughput. So yes, two drives striped together as RAID 0 will have twice the thriughput of a single drive. The reason many buy an 8-drive RAID is that it has enough throughout and space for most users for a long, long time, allowing one to grow over time without making a new major purchase for a long time.

I understand…
The two best RAID controllers are Areca and ATTO, but they are a bit pricey, at about $950 to $1100 each. They both come in a variety of flavors, depending upon how many ports you need internally and externally. The Areca 1882 series are a bit easier to deal with typically.
There are less expensive controllers by LSI that aren’t bad, but don’t be tempted by RocketRaid cards, as their support bites.
One more very important fact is, no RAID protection scheme is foolproof, so don’t think that RAID 5 means no backups are necessary. The RAID 0 issue you had should not have been a disaster, as you should have had a backup. So, with that being said, maybe you really need more backup drives, not a RAID controller?

You’ve not mentioned whether you’re on the Mac or PC platform – not that it matters for the top two Raid controllers, as they are cross platform, but like many questions, the answer is a tad more complex than you seem to think.

In your entire post you never once mentioned whether you’re on a Mac or a PC – that makes a huge difference, the GPU you’re looking at will only work with a PC. If you do have a PC that GPU will be just fine.

We know what you want to do, but can you tell us why? Honestly, other the fact that someone who doesn’t really know much about codecs had requested it, I can’t think of a good reason to create a deliverable as XDCam.

You cannot change the field order or other sequence settings of any timeline after the fact, you’ll need to create a new timeline set to “none,” then paste your media from the original timeline and re-render.

Yes it was Patrick – I am sorry for that, and I do share your frustration. However, many folks around the Cow will tell you that I was one of the very first here to promote the use of clones as a preventative measure for exactly these kinds of issues, and it frustrates me that after years of restating the same warning I still haven’t reached everyone with the message.
In any case, it’s really unfortunate, but even the best software and hardware manufactures do, from time to time, release screwy driver and software updates that cripple editing systems that can bring a facility to it’s knees. Preventative measures really must be in place 100% of the time or you will get hosed.
In any case, if there’s anything I can do I’ll do my best to help you and any others. In the meantime, I hope you’re able to get your systems back up ASAP.
