Your audio is a mono source, so when you capture select video + channel 1.
Or since you have already captured the footage, just pan center as you did. -

I tend to record flat, and then add a high pass of my choosing in post if I need to. -
Is $400.00 your total budget for the Mic, cable, zepplin or windscreen, shock mount, boom pole?
Or just the Mircophone? -
This really depends on your budget, and the skill level of the boom operator.
But you might find the audio lacking trying to use a single shotgun mic for a four person interview setup
depending on the spread of the seating.
My thought would be to use a lav mic on each person, run into a small mixer, which would feed channel 1.
Then the shotgun mic on a boom run into channel 2. -

I don’t know of many people doing the 3D thing,
but I do know that Canon has a 3D lens that will work on an XL1 or XL2
without having to lock two cameras together. -
It has happened to more than a few people.
Years ago I worked at a radio station as the morning drive jock and production director.
I can still remember just like it was yesterday, getting of the air and going into the production room to produce spots.
I was standing at the bulk eraser zapping tapes when an AE came in to give me the master tape of a clients new jingle.
As we were talking, another AE came in wanting to chat about the spots for their client.
I’m chatting away with the two, while my busy little hands were hard at work bulking tape.
Yes the new jingle, a concert promo from Bill Young, and a half dozen spots that were just carted.
Oh well, Life does go on!
