Genlocking and Phase Locking a dvx100 or agdvc80
I currently own a Panasonic agdvc80 which is the little brother of the dvx100. I have been reading about a company named “21st Century 3D” which has electronically linked two dvx100a video cameras together to be able to film 3d content. In order to film 3d content the cameras must be Genlocked and Phase locked. The company does not provide information on how they were able to build the camera rig but they did successfully do it. I have recently gotten into making 3d anaglyph movies. I have just completed my first one using two small sony handy cams. I would like to further prefect my workflow by using better cameras such as the agdvc80 and dvx100. Does anyone have any knowledge on what products are necessary to genlock and phase lock cameras. I understand that the camera is not capable of being genlocked as it comes out of the box and that one has to tap into the internal electronics to complete the genlocking on the slave camera. I have done some research on genlocking and have found that you send the video output of one camera (the master) into the genlock input of the second (slave) camera. So basically I am curious if anyone can aid me in the products necessary for genlocking and how to make connections between the cameras for their time code clocks to be in sync. I am not to sure how to phase lock the cameras but apparently that is necessary as well for accurate recording .Here are some links. In the one picture you can see the connections; it appears that a svideo connection is made on the one camera which feeds into the box on top of the cameras, followed by an output cable from the box into a connection that was linked into the dvx’s internal electronics, I
