Go find a pane of glass than has the pattern in it you want. Shoot it.
Use the still image as your displacement map.

No, just follow the instructions on the installer.
You will also get advice to reinitialize your drive and reinstall everything, including your OS. Silly, in my opinion, but it seems to be a popular prophylaxis.

And it might be that your playback deck simply does not like the tape. If you recorded on a Sony and are playing on a Canon, the camcorder’s head patterns may not match closely enough to play coherently.
Use the same deck you shot on. Get a cleaning tape and run it through the deck.

I don’t have FCP6 yet but are you trying to do the same thing you used to do in FCP5+?

I think there’s a hack for this somewhere but you bought the wrong version of FCP to run on that computer.
Take it back, call the vendor, try to exchange it. Or pay for the upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2.bogiesan

The gamma is there but it’s not a universal setting. You can get a good target but most monitors, especially projectors and laptops, are all different. We add a bit of brightness, too.
We created a 1 minute clip that had a wide range of chroma and scene values. We then ran it trough Flip using different settings. This is important: You’ve got to figure out a way to tell the files apart!
Use a file name or do what we did: super the brightness/gamma settings over the clip.bogiesan

Check the manual, I think you must have a sequence open; something like that.
BTW: You’re going to want to investigate an audio filter called Dynamic Range.

You can research kernel panics at the apple.com knowledge base site (support area) but the wretched things are impossible to track down unless you have specialized software. You can run the Hardware Test app that came with your system disks for even less information but it’s worth a shot because, from my experiences, an intermittent kernel panic is most likely going to be related to a hardware issue.
