As noted, H.264 is not an editing format, it’s a delivery format (that probably won’t be around much longer that Sheer and ProRes are beginning to catch one, but I digress). The fastest way to get back to work is to insist that your animators give you properly formatted video. You got the wrong stuff from the game company. Ask for real video, not trailers.

> Currently I am animating a heart monitor strip by placing the strips (a total of 24 for 8 min each) butting them up against each other and exporting as a .mov from FCP. I will then import the .mov into Flash. < Why Flash if your need is for quality? You haven't explained how you're animating them, where they came from, or how you are presenting them (except in Flash). What size is the playback movie? > My question is how to keep the highest quality possible when I export the .mov. The strips are an average of 1800 x 1200.< That's not a particularly large graphic but what format is your timeline? Conventional DV? HD? How do you make a 1800 pixel-wide graphic last for 8 minutes? > I wanted to keep them large for quality sake, of course the files are huge and start to bog down my cpu. If anyone has worked on a similar project and can modify my workflow or has suggestions on the proper settings to export, that would be great. I have to have it to the client by tomorrow. < Yes, use After Effects. But you can't have it to them tomorrow. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

> Whenever I render out an animations with an alpha channel in after effects then bring it into final cut HD, it gives me wierd artifacts.< You'd need to explain that statement. I've been using Animation out of AE for more than ten years and never seen unacceptable artifacts that were really there or could not be traced to user error or a simple misunderstanding of how alpha works. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Yes, additionally, Wave World is almost always used as a source for other effects such as Caustics and displacements. This require precomposing or nesting the Wave World output (unless your render WW as a separate movie).
Look over that tutorial very carefully, just one more time. I think you’re missing the one step where WW is precomped.

Not directly, no.
You could create a tiled circle matte on top of your main layer and position them to become the matte sources for the Card Wipe or Card Dance.
It’s not particularly difficult but presumes solid competency in mattes.bogiesan

You might hit the AE beginners forum, too.
You can have multiple cameras in a comp but only the topmost is rendered. If your camera is active (the eyeball is on) that is the view that gets rendered.
In the 4 views layout, any one of them can be set to be the active camera.
Using cameras in AE is tricky at best; many gotchas and terrible quirks that only research and endless experience can prepare you for.

[audioeditor] “I’m looking for maximum throughput.
“Sounds like you know what you want but, even for HD, can you not achieve maximum throughput for several layers of real time with just two drives?
Personally, I would not use a RAID that included all available drives unless I had a clear and competently tested backup system in place. If one of the five go down, the whole RAID is lost.

> read about “Auto Select” in FCP Help, beginning on II-185
< Rats, John, you know, I was REALLY hoping Apple would kill this silly AutoSelect thing in v6. While I have forced myself to learn to use the dang things, it's still too many keystrokes/clicks in too many different places to accomplish what are, in any other NLE, very simple things. Makes you wonder who Apple's designers listen to come to up with these ideas like AutoSelect; they certainly didn't ask ME. bogiesan This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.” -
to further clarify Peter’s suggestion, open the Mac Help System and search for typing special characters and symbols. You can set several options in System Prefs or use a selectable keyboard layout.
