I’m working with FCP HD and am editting video game sequences to form trailers. I’m wondering if there is a special animation codec to do this because no matter how much I render the files in the timeline, they still don’t playback (dropped frames etc.). The V.G. animation files are 1280×720 with h.264 codec. I’m on a 4-core and I don’t think it’s the machine that’s failing. PLEASE HELP!

H-264 is not an editing codec. Convert the files to DVCProHD and edit that.

Thanks for the reply. How do I go about converting it? Is there a faster way than QT?

Either using QT or Compressor. Neither will be “fast”.

In this case, since h-264 is an MPEG4 variant, try Streamclip. It definitely works, I just tested it on an h-264 clip. It may be faster.

    Three things:
What codec is your source material?

What do you have to do with your finished FCP sequence? and …

    is KJkj52485 your real name?

    (okay, ignore the last one)

As noted, H.264 is not an editing format, it’s a delivery format (that probably won’t be around much longer that Sheer and ProRes are beginning to catch one, but I digress). The fastest way to get back to work is to insist that your animators give you properly formatted video. You got the wrong stuff from the game company. Ask for real video, not trailers.
