In order to do this you will have to use media manager. There is no decompose command in FCP as there is in AVID. You have to create a whole new media managed project to accomplish this.
TRUST ME.
If you try to move a bin over (as you have suggested, then FCP will want to recapture ALL (as in the entire origianl clip) of your media. If you do not take the time to fllow the steps in these tutorials then you will have to discover this FCP quirk on your own.
So if you don’t like it tell Apple.

Tom,
No QT movie file will encode. I can export to movie but compressor won’t work. The workaround was to get DVD SP to create the file when I dropped the QT into DVD SP it encoded.

I am pretty sure this has soemthing to do with how compressor is trying to access Qmaster to send the jobin for the batch.

I am sending to compressor Via FCP. the source is an FCP sequence. One thing I have noticed is that, after I hit submit the cluster menu reads “NO VALUE” so I think that it’s between compressor and Qmaster.
I have changed the Qmaster settings inteh control Pane, but still having an issue with this.

You need to media manage the sequence and create a new project.

I did my upgrade today with none of these issues at all.
I can even capture with my beta deck through the AJA i/o. They have not even written a driver for that box yet.
I am loving the new software. INstalled mid project and picked up where I left off with the old one.
This, of course after doing a full back up and also saving copies of all of my FCP 5 projects.

One thing you can do is go to the root folder and then create a new folder in a different place called “unused easy setups” Then drag all of the easy setups you do not use to that folder. If you end up needing a PAL set up orsomething down the road then you can find it, but it will not clutter up the basic set-ups you use.

How were you monitoring it before?
Are you sending the monitor SDI or Component output?
Is it an HD monitor?
Do you have the latest KONA drivers loaded?

You can also add pulldown to 29.97 footage when you capture it. If you wanted to capture the betacam footage at 23.98 the Kona card will introduce the pulldown for you. I have done this to mix and match footage in 23.98 projects.

The Kona card does not speed up rendereing, in fact no card speeds up rendereing. all rendering in FCP is sped up by the amount of RAM you have and the RT Extreme engine (on board mac processors) found in FCP.
The Kona card has some hardware acceleration for only a few specific codecs but do not be confused the cards are all a means to get the signal in and out, THAT’S it!
