Sadly there is no way to ‘split’ Multicam tracks apart once the multicam track has been created. For the future, before you make a multitrack, Select all the video tracks as usual, but instead of going straight to ‘creat multicamera track’ duplicate the tracks first, then create multicamera track. You can then mute all the original video tracks and place them down the bottom of your project, then if you notice something out of sync later on you can just go to the original out of sync track, nudge it into sync, all the angles selected from this track in the multicam edit will go pink (Out of sync) you can then select all the pink clips and resync by slipping.

In your situation you can still do a similar thing:

In your multicam track grab one of the out of sync clips and ctrl drag to a new track directly below. Extend the clip to its boundaries, then nudge it left or right to resync. You should notice all those angles in the multicamera track go pink (out of sync)

To select all pink clips the easy way heres how.
1. Lock the clip you have just resynced,
2. right click it and choose ‘select in project media’
3. right click the clip in project media and choose ‘select timeline events’
4 right click on any one of the pink clips now selected in the multicam track and choose ‘syncronize by slipping’

that should be it

That error is not very descriptive,
Does it happen even with an empty project? You may have a file in the project that vegas doesn’t like.
Have you tried reinstalling vegas?
did you download the latest vegas update 9b

Hi Jeff,

Your dialog levels should be around -12db to match up with broadcast standards, I would not change the master level from the default 0db. The best way that I have found to level the volume on a project is to individually adjust each sound clip by dragging the volume bar on the clip itself. You will notice that this is usually set to default 0db, therefore you can only decrease the volume by pulling the clip level down. If you need to increase some clip levels to match the ones before and after, normalize them and then adjust the levels down to match. You can also use envelopes to adjust the volume, but in my experience I have found the method above to be easier to manage, especially when you are likely to fine trim events again later on. You can also use compressors and limiters to even out the volume on your track, but I would always start with adjusting the clips themselves first.

As regards the master track, This is useful for adding Audio fades at certain points affecting all audio in the project using envelopes, for example between scenes where you may wish to lower music dialog and fx all together to transition to the next scene.

Hi,

I know exactly what you mean, and I have had those issues before, You sync up various cameras, but there may be a drift in audio along a show of an hour or more in length.

First of all, there is no other editing program that will let you mix such an array of source footage for multicam editing so you will be pleasantly surprised with vegas, It incorporates AVCHD like no other. I regularly shoot with 2 HDV cameras, 2 DV cameras and one AVCHD. these can all be multicam edited without conversion. No Problem.

First of all follow the advise in the other replies and line up everything in sync. select and Duplicate all video tracks, The duplicates will already be automatically selected after this step so you can go straight to creating a multicam track. Move this new multitrack to the top layer and you will always have the source footage underneath.

If a camera happens to be out of synch and you only notice this later on in the edit there is a very easy fix.

If you resync the original file underneath the multi track by moving it a frame right or left, any cuts to that camera in the multitrack will show up as out of sync. (Pink)

here’s the quickest fix and I’ve never come across a simpler solution in any NLE. good work sony.

Select the original event you have just resynced, right click, select events in project media, then right click the event in project media, select events in the timeline, this will select all the clips in the multicam track from that camera. right click any one of them in the multicam track and choose synchronize by slipping.

That should do it.

You can just do the select events on timeline trick and zoom in well, alt click in any one clip and slip it left or right to resync without going near the source clips underneath. this will slip all clips from that camera in the multi.

I hope this is what you are asking about, as this sort of audio drift thing happens to me quite a bit. HDV and AVCHD dont record frame accurate audio so this technique helps me out everytime.

Hi,
Do you have a secondary display connected for video preview? if so, turn off full screen preview and click on event pan crop. sometimes the pan crop window can be behind the video preview and you wont see it. This has happened to me before and I searched everywhere to find it. Turns out I had moved pan crop to the other monitor to do adjustments and then forgot it was there when preview was full screen again.

To get the feathered edges you want just apply the border effect to your smaller clip, edit the color to be transparent and that should do it.

When you say your video is filling the screen, what aspect is your screen? if it’s 16:9, then everything is ok, if your screen is 4:3 it should still fill the screen but appear tall and squished. either way your video is widescreen and is acceptable to tv stations in this anamorphic format.

Aswell as using separate tracks for the composite, make sure they are grouped as composite parent and child. this will leave the rest of your tracks as normal video

You can change preferences at any time in vegas. all stretching, resampling is done in real time, so unless you rendered out sections of the project it should resample on export to whatever project settings you choose. The peak files should be fine, as they are calculated on the original which is not being altered by project preferences

Broadcast peak levels are -6, with dialogue in or around -12
DVD is -3
Web is usually -0.1
