    Hi,

You can use Prores, any flavour. Vegas with quicktime installed will handle these files quite well

after doing your multicam edit click on source file for camera 1 in Project media Window
right click the event in project media, -> select events in the timeline, this will select all the clips in the multicam track from that camera

Grab one of these clips and drag them to a new track. this will give you the opportunity to work on that camera on that track only.

You can repeat this procedure for all cameras, or even if you have multiple source clips for each camera such as tape change in longer project. just make sure you dont move left or right while dragging down and you should remain in sync

    Hope this helps

  • Hi,

Make sure you have saved your custom template with appropriate name.

    close vegas

    start Vegas

custom templates should now be visible in batch render

    Hi.

That image size is actually correct. Final cut pro is doing the work for you in converting from a non square pixel aspect ratio to square. If you search in the FCS help manual “Pal CCIR” it will lead you to the page explaining graphics sizes preferred by final cut to mix with footage.

Incidentally when you create a graphic in Photoshop and choose PAL Square pixel you also get 768 x 576.

It is much more convenient to work in square pixels for graphics as it minimizes the chance of unwanted stretch or squeeze.

    Hope That helps

February 24, 2010 at 9:19 am in reply to: FCP project on FireWire drive not loading on second mac

    Hi.
Try copying only the project file onto the second mac, then disconnect the firewire drive and load up the project to see what happens.
If the project loads up ok then you can connect the hard drive and try to reconnect the offline media. this may work.

if your project still wont load even without the media, your best bet is to export an XML from the first mac that is running the project fine. Try opening that on the second mac and see if it works.

If that wont work, export an edl from mac 1 and import to mac 2.

Hope some of the above works for you

November 7, 2009 at 11:11 pm in reply to: Can you cut HDV on external Firewire Drive?

It is true that Firewire and USB are using different architecture to control data flow, But as I said, Both are adequate. I have many years of experience using external drives for editing in final cut among others and I can say that USB will do the job just fine. I have edited multicamera shoots in HDV with a portable USB hard drive at 5400rpm. When it comes down to it the data rate of HDV is still only around 3.5MB/s

To answer the Original Posters Question if external drives are good enough for HDV I would still have to say YES!

Yes you can use an External Drive for HDV. Both USB and Firewire are adequate. It is only when you start using multicam features with 6 or more angles that you will find a bottleneck. For normal editing though it is fine.

    Hi,

Yes you can preview a HDV timeline through firewire device, as long as your dv camera has dv IN, final cut pro will see it as a playback device. just assign video playback to DV under view menu and it should work

November 7, 2009 at 12:40 am in reply to: virtual midi to link vegas to acid

    Hi

    Did you try https://www.midiox.com ?

I’m not sure it works in 64bit, but I did have it going in 32bit vista. I had nuendo slaving to vegas, I was able to use nuendo to play the audio multitrack in perfect sync with vegas By using this technique. Once your virtual midi driver is working it’s straight forward enough to slave them.

You could always go hardware too if you buy a cheap midi interface with 2 in 2 out, just loop a cable and assign the correct ports and bob’s your uncle.

  • look for a button called “ignore event grouping”. it should be close to snapping, and ripple
