  • FCP project on FireWire drive not loading on second mac

Posted by Matt Hogan on February 23, 2010 at 11:42 pm

I’m having some problems trying to work on an FCP project on another iMac via a firewire drive.

    Both macs have FCP 6.0.5

Everything I think a project needs is on the FW drive:

    Waveform Cache
    Thumbnail Cache
    Autosave Vault

    Render Files:
    Video Capture,
    Audio Capture,
    Video Render
    Audio Render

And of course the media files and project file itself.

Yet when trying to open the file on another mac with from the FW drive, the project only gets to 19% on the progress bar and freezes.

What else is needed or how could I find what’s associated with this project? I suspect there’s some file on the first mac that isn’t on the second.

I did dabble in FXFactory on this project, but have removed all traces including the application. At least I think I have!

Would really appreciate any advice, thanks.

    Hi.
Try copying only the project file onto the second mac, then disconnect the firewire drive and load up the project to see what happens.
If the project loads up ok then you can connect the hard drive and try to reconnect the offline media. this may work.

if your project still wont load even without the media, your best bet is to export an XML from the first mac that is running the project fine. Try opening that on the second mac and see if it works.

If that wont work, export an edl from mac 1 and import to mac 2.

Hope some of the above works for you

Bizarrely my latest attempt to open the project on the 2nd mac (the 5th attempt) worked no problem. I only had to relink the render folder. Most strange.

Great to have your tips for future reference and understanding though Dave.

    Thanks again,

    Matt
