There may be a better way but this is how i do it.

select clip on timeline to be replaced
    “cmd c” to copy effects
    Replace clip with new clip
    select new clip
“cmd alt v” to paste effects from previous clip

its a bit clumsy but gets the job done. An option to replace with effects would be nice though.

  • Just found that you can compact a sparse image using terminal

“Similarly, a .sparseimage file that has expanded in size but then had files deleted, can be “compacted” to a smaller size with the following command:
    hdiutil compact MyFile.sparseimage”

    from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparse_image

  • Hi Kevin,

I wasn’t aware that the images don’t shrink. To be honest the situation hasn’t come up as I usually don’t delete anything from the client image. I guess in the old days I used to delete captured footage and archive to tape but those days are long gone now.

I usually just drag the image from the work drive to the backup drive. I don’t create a new image, but if i wanted to shrink that would be the way.

as far as mounting I just double click the image in the finder, and to unmount i eject just like a cd or any other installer image etc.

    hope that helps

  • Hi,
I manually mount. It’s just a double click away

  • Hi,

I use sparse images for all my clients. you can specify the size to be as big as the hard drive they reside on, but the great thing about sparse images is that they only use up as much space as the data inside them. I have around 20 disk images on my 2TB raid and there is plenty of space for more.
The great thing about images is that I have everything belonging to that client on this image. Graphics, text files, review notes etc etc. It is a very tidy way of working, and makes backup and sharing a breeze.
just try it out, create sparse image in disk utility, specify the size as big as you want. if you specify larger than the hard drive capacity it will be ok until the image grows too large in which case you will be asked to move it to a larger disk.

  • I have done this successfully the other way round, ie from 1080 50i pal to NTSC DVD.

For you, i think the best way would be to send to compressor and choose dvd preset, then modify the preset so your video format is PAL and frames are 25.
Audio is the same for both formats, ie AC3

    Good luck

I Also Have the Solo Bug.

on a similar line to your xdcam clip. I use a sony HVR S270 which records M2T files to compact flash. I use clip wrap to rewrap the files to quicktime. they play perfectly in Quicktime X, FCP 7, Premiere Pro, yet they are glitchy in FCPX. When I transcode to prores from clip wrap or Mpeg Streamclip They work Fine.

    Hi Scott,

Could you please elaborate as to what waves plugins you have?
What VST plugin folder have you installed the waveshells to? for example “c:/program files/vst plugins”
do the plugins show up in other vst hosts like cubase etc?

I suspect that the vst versions of the plugins dont have the correct permissions in the registry. this is the case with version 5 of the mercury bundle on vista and win 7. 32 bit vegas will see the dx versions but 64Bit vegas can only access the VST version of the plugin.

All my 32bit waves plugins show up perfectly in Vegas 10 x64

    A G5 tower??

You\’d have some fun trying to run windows on that!
An i7 iMac is very good for Vegas, and by using an external FireWire 800 drive is good enough for most work. Although as mentioned before a mac pro offers upgradeability.
