as Jeremy said, but also change the pan mode to stereo l/r if it is set to none. I found this makes a big difference in dual mono recordings which always default to none, and even if i raise the gain to max it will only hit -6db if set to “none”, in stereo pan mode it operates as expected.

Build in Mandatory means it will always animate in, Build in optional presents a tick box to Final cut where you can choose to have the animation on or off

I find library manager great for this purpose.
Not only does it let you see all your libraries in one place instead of digging around in the finder, but you can delete render and optimised media files in any library or just right click whichever one and chose open alone, which does exactly what you need.

I use an app called sync folders pro.
It will sync 2 folders and all their content in either direction.I use it to back up my working directory on internal MacBook to my raid in the office.
Once I have additional edits or footage in my library on the MacBook I run the app. It only adds changes so it’s very quick.
When I’m done with the project I run it one more time, then open the library from my raid to ensure everything is ok and delete the folder on the MacBook.
I can then use library manager to get rid of optimised media and render files in the library on the raid.The advantage is that I have a constant backup of the library and also additional files residing in the work folder such as scripts, after effects, music, preview edits etc.
If I delete something on my work folder during the course of the peoject and run the sync, it moves it into a deleted folder on the raid so it’s a very handy way to be able to step back should I need to.
I have had zero issues working this way, no library corruptions or missing files etc. and I always have a backup up to latest sync point.

If you have motion, open the title in it, move play head to where the in animation is finished, put a timeline marker here and modify it to be ‘build in mandatory’
Next Navigate to just before the out animation starts and put a timeline marker here and modify it to be ‘build out mandatory’
Save, possibly as new title and now when you stretch it in fcp x it will only stretch the middle.

Hi James,
Yes, the application I use looks inside the library package at finder level. I keep all media inside it, I back up the entire client folder to keep all the other stuff in sync aswell such as notes, scripts and also the preview exports etc. but I was quite surprised myself that it works so well with the libraries when I upgraded to 10.1
I’ve been using this method with great success so far.
It also works really well to back up after the project is finished as I don’t have to wait until the very end, but can do daily or weekly backups to an external drive very quickly.Dave

Are you sharing the project between computers with other editors or just yourself?
If it is the latter, I do this all the time. I have found the best solution to be a program called sync folders pro.My setup is as follows.
Event on raid in the studio, connected to editing computer Imac.
I frequently go to my clients offices to do the edits so what I do is create a work folder on my laptop and use sync folders pro to sync my project folder for client from the iMac raid to laptop in target disc mode. This has me up to date with any files, edits up to sync point. I sync early on so the big files are transferred in the background, then just before I leave for client I sync again to have the latest version on my laptop. It only syncs the changed files which in this case is usually the project file, so it takes a few seconds.I then do my edits on the laptop and add pickups etc at client site,
Come back to my iMac, connect in target disc mode again, and sync, but this time choose the other direction.
This way everything stays in sync, and also any notes I may have added or screenshots etc are added to the client folder on raid too. I also now have an exact clone of my clients project folder so everything is backed up.Sorry if this doesn’t apply to your situation exactly but might be of use to someone else

I use sync folders pro.
I have a project folder on my working drive. In it is everything related to the project, graphics, after effects, scripts etc. and my fcpx library with all media in it.
At the end of the day I sync this folder to another folder on the raid. It only copies the changed or added files, and I have an exact copy of my working folder on my raid.
Sync folders pro can see into the fcpx library and only copy changes and new files, projects, render frames etc. and is very fast.Hope that helps
