You’re not being too simple… I’m being too stupid!

It worked fine… just had to find the sweet spot… Thanks for your help.

the quicktime h264 worked pretty good for my reel, and should be ideal for your situation. I’ve also had ok experience with sorenson 3.

what’s your target size? what are your render settings in ae? more info please… 🙂

If you’re just previewing/working, then lower the resolution to “quarter”, turn your quality switch to “draft” for each layer, and set up a ram preview that skips every other frame (in the time control window)…

15 layers isn’t that small, especially if you have 3d layers on/nested comps/that kind of stuff…

I use xpress pro and the mc adrenaline. In my experience, xpress pro is good for the corporate-type stuff, or to offline something. But the adrenaline seems like more of a “real” editing system to me (I’m not sure if I can articulate that any better). Xpress pro has its limitations in terms of effects/color correction, and I find the mojo to freeze up a lot, and not give much back in the way of speed. The adrenaline is much more stable, and more flexible with resolutions. My version of xpress only has 2 or 3 resolution choices, while the mc adrenaline has the gamut of rez choices.

Of course, the adrenaline is more expensive than xpress. But you get a lot for your money in my humble opinion.

If you’re still getting audio hits, try doing an audio mixdown and see if that helps with your output…

These are just data files that show up when you go from mac to pc. They’re hidden on macs, but for some reason they accompany the quicktimes and show up in the pc windows. Your editor should just ignore them, and if they’re unable to do that, tell them to delete the files.

I get them all the time on my flash drive when I bring quicktimes from mac to pc…

Also, for more on this, the FCP manual has a lot of info on “anamorphic” footage. Just do a search for ‘anamorphic’ in fcp help and you should get more info…

    1) capture the footage
    2) check “anamorphic” in the “clip settings” (although FCP may already have checked it for you)
    3) set up a widescreen dv sequence… it should look correct in your computer monitor, but still squeezed in the ntsc monitor…
    4) do you editing
    5) take your finished widescreen seq and place it into a regular standard dv sequence… it should letterbox it for you at that point. And everything should be dandy…

[Hampster] “I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 camera that I have hooked up to Panasonic AG-DV2500 dv deck through the RCA input in the back of the deck. The mini dvd disk that I am playing through the camera and patching through the deck into Final Cut was recorded in the widescreen 16×9 mode. What are the setting in Final Cut I need to have so the picture does not look stretched. I am ok with it having the black widescreen at the top and bottom but it still looks stretched. The final output for playing this footage will not be a widescreen tv. What do my capture settings and sequence settings need to be so that it does not look streched. Thanks”

  • You should always try to match the field order of the editing system (lower field first in this case). However, also make sure your timeline playback settings in FCP are high quality and your clip settings for the animation are correct in FCP.

try doing a video mixdown of your sequence and exporting that…

    clip>>Video Mixdown…
    or
    special>>Video Mixdown…

    (depending on your version)
