    Setup
    Dual Proccesor G4 Tower
    Fincal Cut Pro 5
    Mac OSX 10.4.3

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD403 camera that I have hooked up to Panasonic AG-DV2500 dv deck through the RCA input in the back of the deck. The mini dvd disk that I am playing through the camera and patching through the deck into Final Cut was recorded in the widescreen 16×9 mode. What are the setting in Final Cut I need to have so the picture does not look stretched. I am ok with it having the black widescreen at the top and bottom but it still looks stretched. The final output for playing this footage will not be a widescreen tv. What do my capture settings and sequence settings need to be so that it does not look streched. Thanks

    1) capture the footage
    2) check “anamorphic” in the “clip settings” (although FCP may already have checked it for you)
    3) set up a widescreen dv sequence… it should look correct in your computer monitor, but still squeezed in the ntsc monitor…
    4) do you editing
    5) take your finished widescreen seq and place it into a regular standard dv sequence… it should letterbox it for you at that point. And everything should be dandy…

Also, for more on this, the FCP manual has a lot of info on “anamorphic” footage. Just do a search for ‘anamorphic’ in fcp help and you should get more info…
