I have a dual core 3.4 laptop that can edit HDV 1080i without a problem, as long as I set my preview to “Preview, auto” Then best full if I need to see in great detail. AVCHD and MP4 are a different story. Danny Hays

As long as it’s a dual core or better, 64 bit version should run. Did you right click and say run as administrator? Possibly download the latest of dirext x, but this should have been done with the Vegas install, if I remember. Danny Hays

I wonder why they stopped with 8, giving you Cineform? I used that all the time. It changed the color with HDV from 4.2.0.to 4.2.2, which is better to chromakey with. That’s why I bought the Blackmagic Shuttle. If I’m capturing in my studio, I don’t use tape. I capture straight from the imager without it going through the cameras HDV compression and capture as Motion JPEG. This format keys fantastic, and has none of the mpeg compression artifacts you can get with HDV and moving your camera in a fast pan. Danny Hays

Absolutly. I use Vegas for audio if I don’t need any MIDI instruments. Vegas supports directx and VST audio pluggins. No other NLE does that. They all expect you to use another app for audio.
I believe Vegas still allows you to use several computers to render out large projects for faster renders. Does the new versions still do that John? -
This will still work like that, but you will be capturing the same format as is you were capturing through the firewire. The main reason I got it was live out of most cameras HDMI, DV, HDV is it bypasses the HDV, DV compression and can get better quality straight from the camera imager, instead of DV or HDV. If it captured to tape, then it’s already compressed. Live from the camera component, HDMI or composite, S video is it’s captured before the camera compression, and can be captured as Blackmagics MJPEG or 8 and 10 bit uncompressed avi, but the uncompressed video capture will need a fast RAID array to get that much data in and out in real time.

Hmmm, I have the Shuttle and capture component as MJPEG and it looks fantastic, 1080i straight from the imager of my Sony HVR-A1U. are you capturing with Media express or a third party software? Are you using the same display with HDMI as with component out? Also your one of the few that has an Intensity running on a Mac. You got Bootcamp and using Windows? I use the HDMI out to view, havent used component out yet. Guess I gotta try and see my results.

Blackmagic makes a HDMI, component, s-video and composite capture and playback, preview card and usb 3 device, both cost 189$ each. BUT you have to have a quad core with an X58 chipset for it to work.
I built an I7 and bought the USB 3 Shuttle. It works great. It can capture straight from the imager of my HDV camera and bypass the M2T compression. Captures in Blackmagic Motion JPEG and 8 and 10 bit uncompressed if you have a raid 0 array to handle the I/O. Check them out.

I was wondering the same about the Shuttle. My laptop PCI express slot doesn’t have the bandwidth to support the Shuttle, so it won’t let me install the software, even if I only wanted to use the lower bandwidth settings, SD or MJpeg, so most likely your in the same boat. I had to build an I7 with an X58 chipset motherboard with
USB 3. -
Let me try my Shuttle HDMI out with non-Blackmagic codec video and see when I get home from work. You realize you need a X58 chipset and an NEC USB 3 port in order to use the Shuttle, right?

I have the Intensity Shuttle and can use it as a secondary monitor through the Shuttle, But can’t remember if it has to be BM’s Motion Jpeg or uncompressed. If that all you want to to do is us an HDTV as a full screen monitor for Vegas, Just use a second VGA or DVI, with an adapter to HDMI if your card doesnt have that as an output. It would play anything Vegas will play. Danny Hays
