Running a brand new HP Envy with Win 7 pro 64 . the OS has been upgraded with the latest upgrades.
Installed vegas 9 64 and registered it. When I start the app for the first time, the splash screen tells me when it comes to ‘direct x config’ it hangs and doesn’t go any further. I rebooted and tried again with the same result. Any suggestions or have others seen issues with win 7 64? I’m thinking of uninstalling and trying vegas 9 32. I don’t think I really need whatever the 64 bit system is providing.
    thanks.

    Alan,

I can’t say that this will fix your problem but, whenever I install a new computer or new version of Vegas, I always install 32-bit first. It seems that some of the media generators are only in the 32-bit version. Then I install the 64-bit version. I install it last so that the double-click on a .veg selects 64-bit. I hope this is of some use to you situaltion.

I didn’t need to install the 32 bit version of the OS first. It works just fine. So something got hosed in your install, or you might not have installed some component that Vegas needs. I don’t know what it might be, but whatever uses that .dll should be reinstalled (WMP?)

As to needing 64 bit, you need it if you are going to be running HD editing, as you will run out of RAM quickly editing .mov or AVCHD files. 32 bit windows only accesses, at best 2 GB of RAM, (with some more able to be accessed but by the time you load the machine with apps in memory, etc, it’s not really accessable. So running a multicore machine with 4 GBs or better is going to make a big difference in rendering time, etc. Just put on performance monitor when you render.

It’s well worth sticking with 64 bit, unless you use a lot of plug in’s that aren’t yet running in 64. But heck, you can load both 32 or 64 on Windows and use whatever you need!

As long as it’s a dual core or better, 64 bit version should run. Did you right click and say run as administrator? Possibly download the latest of dirext x, but this should have been done with the Vegas install, if I remember. Danny Hays

Thanks for the suggestions and input. I appreciate it. I’m away for a few days but will try some new things over the weekend and update on this thread.
