I think I’ve figured out a workflow for my feature doc:
I have a master project. It will contain a bin for clips from each shooting day, and as I continue to shoot I’ll add bins.
As time allows, I’ll work on this master project: add clip descriptions, markers, check ‘good’ and add keywords.
When I want to start editing (presumably using footage from multiple days), I will duplicate this master project in the Finder and open it in Premiere. I’ll delete footage from the days I know I won’t be using to improve performance, and begin editing. This will ensure that at any given time I’ll have the latest logging info when I begin editing a scene.
If I need additional footage from additional days, I’ll import that master project and then delete unwanted footage. Again, this will ensure that the clips I use have the latest metadata.
The only problem I foresee is having annoying duplicate master clips that I won’t be able to delete (because PP will remove them from sequences, unlike what happens in FCP 7).

September 3, 2012 at 3:51 am in reply to: Merged clips causing problems with bottom (Audio) half of timelineI have this same problem, and it occurs very randomly. Troubling.
It tends NOT to happen with my more simple projects. I have a big one with 1000s of clips and tons of complex sequences in it… PP has crashed a billion times with this project, so maybe the project file got corrupted?
In any event, I experience the exact same symptoms you do. Others do too.
I’m running a 2008 Mac Pro with Lion.

5d material here too, running on a Mac Pro.

Did you find any answers to this? I have a massive project and am looking for the best way to begin logging — and editing — while not losing metadata as I transfer projects here and there.

Hi Peter,
I’m working on a feature length doc (I have footage from over 100 shoot days), and I’m trying to figure out a good workflow for logging/tagging and editing. I create a project for each shoot date where I will log/sync footage from that day, but then also sometimes I play around and edit footage together (into sequences saved with that day’s project).
Then I experimented with creating a “master project,” importing the 100+ daily project files. No duplicate master clips yet, and I retain the keywords I’ve assigned to clips from whatever particular day (INCLUDING Merged Clips, which is huge).
The goal is to be able to search through my footage in the master project by using (among other things) keywords and logging info, and begin editing my scenes together using footage from over the 100 days.
Unfortunately this master project crashes all the time, and also takes forever to save. I’m running a 2008 Mac Pro with 14GB of RAM… nothing special.
I’m wondering whether you organized your footage into such a large project file (that your PC had no problem with).
Unrelated, I looked into Prelude but it doesn’t work with my workflow… I’m syncing using Pluraleyes and creating Merged Clips. I add metadata in Premiere…

I too am running CS6.0.1, though not on the Cloud. But today I started getting weird display issues in the timeline scrolling up and down (i.e. to view audio tracks on lower tracks). It’s like it wouldn’t refresh. I quit, restarted… still back.
This is in addition to the frequent ‘serious errors’ I get on average 1-2 times a day.

Hi Mark,
Not sure if you’re still having this issue but check your playback resolution settings. They vary by project, so you probably had the “problem” project set at 1/4 resolution (which would then sharpen up when you stop playback) and 1/2 or full resolution in your other project. In the program monitor, this drop down should be on the bottom right of the panel.

Well I’ve got CS6 up and running and tried merging clips w/o going through them all and breaking out to mono. It’s a little early to tell since the problem didn’t crop up immediately back in CS5.5, but it looks like this bug has been addressed.

Anybody know if this bug is fixed in CS6? The breakout-to-mono workaround is adding tons of time to my post workflow at the end of every damn day…
