No need to use the slip tool. When applying, you can either center the transition or justify the transition left or right – if justified left, clip A will end at the out point. You can select this in the effect control tab, but it is easier to just drag the transition over the edit point, and instead of dropping it over the center of the cut, drop it to the left or right of the cut. You can also slide the transition with the selection tool left or right after the fact.

I wish. That would be great, but the pen tool seems to be as useless as an appendix.
Does your mask need to be animated? If not, I have seen tutorials using the titler to make mattes that are perfect in your situation.

Is the view set to “fit”? I don’t have CS3 in front of me at the moment, so I may have the terminology wrong. But somewhere on the program monitor there is a drop down menu where you can set the size of the video to 100%, 200% …. and also fit to window. I think that might be the problem.

Is there music laid down already, and you don’t want to mess that up?
Otherwise just use the ripple edit tool and stretch the title clips 2 seconds longer each on the timeline.

Ahh, ok. So it really has nothing to do with the work area.
But why not export as a microsoft dv AVI, and let encore do the encoding. From what I heard, Adobe Media Encoder in 6.5 is terrible.
It would be interesting to see if an avi has the same problem. Try a 10 sec test clip at the beginning, using your workarea.

Every video clip on the timeline has a motion setting in its effect controls palette. Inside that drop down is a scale parameter and a position parameter. By layering clips on top of each other and adjusting those parameters for each, you will achieve the look you are going for.

Can you view the error report when the crash happens. It might be helpful to know what is causing the fault.

Yeah, you can get a cheap firewire cable from best buy or radio shack, if it didn’t already come with your camcorder. Just make sure you find the firewire input on your computer first. Note the size and shape so you can get the right one to connect camera to computer.

The Work Area is defined by the yellow bar directly on top of the timeline. It has handles that you can adjust to increase or decrease its length. (like if you wanted to render a small portion of your timeline, you can adjust these to fit over the clips needed)
Also, when you click File >> export >> movie, there is a choice to export just the work area, or the entire timeline. I’m just wondering if the black areas are included in the work area if your choosing export work area.
Let me ask you to clarify something. Are you saying that Premiere is replacing the 1.5 seconds of black with 1.5 sec of a still frame? Or is the 1.5 sec of black just being truncated altogether?
