Dell is going to be offering a 24″ monitor soon for 289.
It will be HDCP compliant as well.
Just read about that a few days ago.

The workaround is to have your shooters rolling for 10 seconds before action and 10 seconds after action completes. That way you have plenty of pre and post roll when batch capturing and will not have a problem.

I had a recent project where 15% of the takes started right at the recording start stops and I was not able to get everything. fortunately those clips were never used, but I learned a good lesson in HDV Shooting etiquette.

  • The next version of Toast (8 i think) will support blu-ray burning
and drag and drop functionality (treat it like a hard drive)

Its also supposed to have some very simple authoring tool.

I just completed an HDV project that had the very problem.
The client was logging footage and wanted clips right at
the exact moment there was a scene change which caused
the batch capture to fail on about 15% of the clips.

    My workaround for this is:

tell your camera people to roll for at least 10 seconds
before action, and keep it rolling at least 10 seconds after
    the action is done.

Tell the person logging footage for later capture that
they can only log after the first 10 seconds of a scene
change and 10 seconds before the next scene.

Though if they look at the footage if the shooter did
it properly, it should be obvious.

It would also be good to know if its related in any way to KONA hardware.

mpeg streamclip can convert just about anything.

It’s quickly become one of the tools i can’t live without.

    the 720p24 p2 media is dvcpro-hd right?

I’d use the free mpeg streamclip program and convert the HDV 1080i
stuff down to dvcpro-hd 720p24. It should work quite well.

How does it playback from hdv tape from the camcorder?

    Is it ok there?

The best it will likely look like is that movie “open water” that was shot on minidv.

I find it kinda odd that its a no budget deal, yet they would waist a lot of money on a print to 35mm.

moving stuff with the built in motion tool in fcp is pretty useless most of the time if you want it to look good.

I’ve learned 2 important things when it comes to using still photo’s in fcp.

    1) always resize them down so they are no bigger than 600 pixels tall. You have to get them very close to standard resolution size. FCP for whatever reason just can’t resize pictures with bicubic quality like most other nle’s out there. I really wish they would simply fix that.

    2) make darn sure in your project settings that the rendering quality is set for best. for some stupid reason its defaulted to a lower quality setting.
