  • Convert AVI to Quicktime for editing in FCP?

Posted by Future Man on October 13, 2006 at 9:14 am

    Hello,

Is there a cheap or free program that will convert AVI to Quicktime? I don’t own cleaner and i can’t get ffmpegx to work for some reason.

Thanks for any advice. I really appreciate it!

Depends what’s in the AVI. I’ve been handed DV AVI files and import and edit as is. I’ll get a format warning in FCP but I can edit DV AVIs without rendering.

If Quicktime Pro can play whatever is inside the AVI (and that depends) than it may be able to convert it to your timeline codec .mov.

mpeg streamclip can convert just about anything.

It’s quickly become one of the tools i can’t live without.

I don’t remember how it was done, but a friend converted it using Quicktime Pro.
