Mixing 720p24 and HDV in same timeline
I am editing a piece that was shot with two cameras. One camera was the Panasonic P2 HVX200 shot at 720p24, and the other camera was a Sony HDV shot at 1080i 29.97 fps. I know there is a conflict of frame rates here, but I’m wondering what my best option is here. The P2 content seems to render and play back fine in an HDV timeline, but the difference in resolution shows up as the 720p24 P2 video doesn’t fill the monitor. When I put the HDV content in a DVCPRO HD 720p24 timeline, the resolution size issue is fixed because the 1080 scales down to 720 fine, but after render, it plays back with a sort of “drunk” look. Kind of stuttery, but kind of smooth at the same time and there is some ghosting type effect. So far the best option I have found is to edit in a 720p30 timeline. The negative is that everything has to be rendered. The P2 stuff renders pretty quick, but the HDV takes a bit longer. Also, the HDV looks a lot better in a 720p30 timeline as opposed to a 720p24 timeline, but it doesn’t quite look as good as when it is placed in it’s own HDV timeline. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
