“The multicamera of FCP seems to be a little better in that it displays more than 4 camera’s at a time.”

Depending on what version of Avid you’re using, you can display nine different cameras in multicam mode.

I don’t know off the top of my head what version this works in, but here’s how to find out if it works in yours:

    1. Open the Capture Settings.
    2. Click on the Keys tab.

If there is no Keys tab, then you don’t have this feature.

    good luck,

October 11, 2005 at 3:18 am in reply to: Chroma/RGB Keying problems

Here’s what they’re teaching these days in the Advanced FX class:

    1. Drop a 3d warp on the clip you need to chroma key.
    2. Enter effect mode, and select Chroma Key from the Foreground parameter.
    3. Use the eyedropper to select the primary key color.
    4. Use H Tol to adjust the range of colors to be keyed out.
    5. Use S Low to close any holes in the key (easier to see if Show Alpha is activated).
    6. Under the Erode/Expand parameter, adjust Filter to control the pixels at the edge of the key and smooth out aliased edges.
    7. Use Center to set the amount of erosion or expansion. Values higher than 127 choke/erode the matte.
    8. Use Soft to blur the matte edge.
    9. Under the Spill Supression parameter, activate Use Key Color (the color in the color picker will not look like the key color; this is ok).
    10. Increase Gain until you can no longer see the key color in the foreground image.
    11. Use Soft to blend the replacement color into the surrounding colors.

So for your edge problem, I’d try the Filter and Center parameters under Erode/Expand to remove the haloing of the key color around the subject.

    good luck,

“Avid’s rolling titles always jitteR on roll., esp on Xpress Pro machines.”

Wrong (all three times). If you learn to use the tool, you can make rolling titles that look just fine.

    1. What size are the letters? Sometimes small text (or text with small details on it) will cause a roll to look jittery.

    2. Do you have the interlace order set correctly in AE and in Avid? If you’ve got it set wrong at any step of the process, it’ll screw everything up.

    good luck,

September 24, 2005 at 3:18 pm in reply to: how to delete add edit point?

    Hi Will,

Mark an in and out around the area with all the extra edits, and lift it out. I don’t remember which key (not in front of the system right now) but it’s the one with the weightlifter on it.

    good luck,
    Carl

September 22, 2005 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Head and Tail fade suddenly needs a render?

    Hi,

I saw this a while back on the Avid Forums:

    https://www.avid.com/community/forums/Forum38/HTML/017158.html

You might try contacting Avid, or running through your ReadMe file, because I think this is a known issue. (I realize you’re not on Xpress Pro, but it sounds like the same problem.)

    Hope that helps.

September 22, 2005 at 3:02 pm in reply to: what is the keyboard shortcut to zoom in on edit?

    Hi,

You’re looking for the “Focus” command. On Adrenaline 2.1.6, it’s the “H” key. It’s also at the bottom left of the timeline, and it looks like two circles with a dot in the middle. If you’re on a different system, it might be in a different place.

You could also use the CTRL+[ and CTRL+] keys to zoom in and out of the timeline. Again, these might be different depending on your system.

    good luck,
    Carl

September 21, 2005 at 8:24 pm in reply to: Capture Tool

    Hi Steve,

“In the capture tool, there is a timer that is running down to what I can only assume as capture space.”

If you’re talking about the green numbers in the Capture Tool, those are indeed an estimation of how much more video you’ll be able to capture before your drives are full.

“What happens if it gets to zero…?”

Well, you won’t be able to capture any more video, and if you try you’ll get lots and lots of errors.

“…how do I get the time back?”

You say you mastered all your finished projects and deleted them. Did you delete the project folders from the Avid Projects folder on your hard drive AND the media files associated with these projects? I only ask because the project folders and media files are kept in separate places, and if you left the media files, that would help account for the lack of space on the hard drive.

Try this. Open the Media Tool (under the Tools Menu) and select All Drives and All Projects and see how much media is displayed in the tool. If you’re seeing a lot of media that’s from your old projects, then that’s why you are running out of space. Use the media tool to find media from the old projects and delete it, and you should get your space back.

    good luck,
    Carl

September 21, 2005 at 6:05 pm in reply to: How to lengthen TIFF import

The master clip will only be as long as you make it when you import it. If you set the import length to 10 seconds, and now you want the clip to be 20 seconds long, you have to edit it in your timeline twice.

    good luck,
    Carl
