    Hi,

In the timeline fast menu (aka “hamburger menu”) at the lower left corner of the timeline window, select Audio Data > Auto Gain. This will display a black line in your audio tracks. You can create keyframes on the line and then drag them up or down.

    good luck,
    Carl

  • Ah, well then you just want a regular trim, with the little pink rollers on both sides of the edit.

    good luck,
    Carl

  • “Additionally, in the trim tool… is there a modifier that will allow one to extend and lessen the length of a picture only or audio clip file in the seqence without adding or subtracting from it’s postion in the timeline…just extending or shortening the heads and tails of the clip itself?”

I think I understand what you’re looking for, and it’s called “slip” trimming. Lasso around the clip you want to slip from right to left (the direction is important) and you should see trim handles on the inside of the head and tail. You can then adjust the shot.

There’s more information (and probably a much better explanation) in the manual or online help if you look for Working In Trim Mode>Slipping or Sliding Segments.

    good luck,
    Carl

MC 11 came into being before the iTunes file format existed, so I’m pretty sure MC won’t recognize the iTunes file. You’re stuck burning the iTunes track to CD and importing it from the CD.

    good luck,

    Hi,

Here is the spec page for Avid Xpress Pro:

    https://www.avid.com/products/xpressprohd/specs.asp

Here’s a link to the Avid support forums, where the Xpress Pro PC section is full of posts from people who built their own systems, if you want to see what’s involved in making an existing system (like yours) meet the requirements.

    good luck,

  • “If the features in DV is good enought to eventually hop on an Adrenaline, I’ll spring for that, just as a learning tool.”

    Hi Vinh,

I’ve edited on Xpress DV, Xpress, Xpress Pro and Media Composer and Media Composer Adrenaline. There are small differences between them that might take a few hours to get used to, but if you can run one of them, you can run them all.

If you just want to buy one to learn the interface, then you’ll do fine with Xpress DV.

    good luck,
    Carl

Is your render setting set to “HQ” or “Quality Set in Each Effect”? HQ takes much longer.

    good luck,

    Hi Dan,

“The Avid “knowledge” base says to toss the database files, which I know works flawlessly on the Mac. On this operating system, I have my doubts?”

Don’t be afraid. I run Adrenaline 1.6 on PC, and delete database files whenever I have a media problem. I’ve never had any trouble with the system rebuilding the files.

    good luck,
    Carl

Hell, I think Avid is the greatest NLE in history, but I didn’t want to sound biased. 🙂

    adios,
