According to the Titlemotion website, you can use it as a plug in with Avid Xpress, so you shouldn’t have any problems.
As for Betacam and timecode, Avid systems work with professional decks just like every other NLE. I’ve never had a problem with a Betacam deck or timecode in 8 years of using Avid systems.
There are limitations to Avid, but without knowing your workflow, I can’t tell you if they’ll affect you or not. For example, Avid doesn’t support HDV yet (they say it’s coming within weeks), but if you don’t need HDV right now, then that shouldn’t matter to you.
Hope that helps.

FF and REW behavior is determined by your Composer settings.
If you have FF/REW Ignore Track Selectors turned on, then FF and REW will jump to the next edit without regard for what track(s) are active.
If Ignore Track Selectors is turned off, then FF/REW will jump to the next edit on the active track(s).

Map FF and REW to the A and S keys.

Hi,
Take a look at the user forums for XPro at http://www.avid.com. I know this has been discussed a few times there, and you’ll probably find a lot of good information on how to get it resolved.
good luck,

You can do this on a source clip using the Motion Effect, or on a clip in the timeline using the Timewarp Effect (if XPro has the Timewarp Effect, I’m not certain if it does or not).
good luck,

The system will open whatever bin contains the clip in the source window, and even highlight it for you.

After you edit the clip from the bin into the timeline, the clip is still in the bin, so generally you don’t move a clip from the timeline to a bin. What are you trying to accomplish?
“By the same token, how I do I get a clip from the timeline to appear in the source monitor as opposed to the record monitor”
Usually when you double click the clip in the bin, it automatically goes into the source monitor (the one on the left), or opens in it’s own window. Alternatively, you can drag the clip from the bin directly to the source monitor.
Not to be a wise-a$$, but do you have access to a tutorial disc, or anything else that will help you familiarize yourself with the system? If so, it’d be a good idea to run through it.
good luck,

Whatever you wind up using, make sure you don’t let it run in the background, or let it scan your media drives. Running in the background eats up a lot of the system resources that Avid needs to run smoothly, and running on your media drives will drive the system nuts with the constantly changing data.
My suggestion is to just let the antivirus software periodically scan your system drive.

What type of file (.mov? .avi? something else?) and what happens when you try and make a large file? Do you get any error messages?
When you say “Avid pro 4,” do you mean Avid Xpress Pro 4.x? What exact version are you using?

Adrenaline includes the Pan & Zoom effect, which allows you to work with oversize graphics. In my experience, P&Z is kind of buggy, but it’s good when it works.
There are other plugins that do the same thing, but I can’t remember any of them off the top of my head. Try searching the Avid Adrenaline user forums at https://www.avid.com/cgi/forumscgi/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro for more information.
good luck,
