  • Embarrassingly simple Avid Xpress Pro question – move clip from timeline to bin?

Posted by Avidnovice on August 17, 2005 at 4:37 am

How do I move a clip from the timeline to a bin? By the same token, how I do I get a clip from the timeline to appear in the source monitor as opposed to the record monitor?

    Thanks in advance!

    (Please refrain from taunting me!)

“How do I move a clip from the timeline to a bin?”

After you edit the clip from the bin into the timeline, the clip is still in the bin, so generally you don’t move a clip from the timeline to a bin. What are you trying to accomplish?

Usually when you double click the clip in the bin, it automatically goes into the source monitor (the one on the left), or opens in it’s own window. Alternatively, you can drag the clip from the bin directly to the source monitor.

Not to be a wise-a$$, but do you have access to a tutorial disc, or anything else that will help you familiarize yourself with the system? If so, it’d be a good idea to run through it.

    good luck,
    Carl

Let’s say the original bin is closed or I’m not sure where to find the original bin and I’m creating a new bin from the timeline – then I’d need to move the clip from the timeline to a new bin.

Yep – I do have a few books as well as the help installed help guide, but I can not seem to find this (searching under various kewords).

Place your position indicator (blue line) over the clip on the timeline and use the match frame function to load it into your source monitor. Then simply drag from the source monitor to a bin.

Or if you don’t want to make a whole new bin, do this: After using Chris’ very useful suggestion of match framing, use the “Find Bin” command. The system will open whatever bin contains the clip in the source window, and even highlight it for you.

    good luck,
    Carl
