    Anyone,

I have been working now for a little over a year on different projects, and I forsee a problem in my immediate future. In the capture tool, there is a timer that is running down to what I can only assume as capture space. I have a little more than 3 hours of capture time left. What happens if it gets to zero, and how do I get the time back? I am about to edit a documentary, and I have over 40 hours of film. I have taken all of my finished projects, and created master copies, so that I could delete previous projects and open up more space on my hard drive. I thought this would solve my problem, but there is still only three hours of capture space. Please help.

    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve,

“In the capture tool, there is a timer that is running down to what I can only assume as capture space.”

If you’re talking about the green numbers in the Capture Tool, those are indeed an estimation of how much more video you’ll be able to capture before your drives are full.

“What happens if it gets to zero…?”

Well, you won’t be able to capture any more video, and if you try you’ll get lots and lots of errors.

“…how do I get the time back?”

You say you mastered all your finished projects and deleted them. Did you delete the project folders from the Avid Projects folder on your hard drive AND the media files associated with these projects? I only ask because the project folders and media files are kept in separate places, and if you left the media files, that would help account for the lack of space on the hard drive.

Try this. Open the Media Tool (under the Tools Menu) and select All Drives and All Projects and see how much media is displayed in the tool. If you’re seeing a lot of media that’s from your old projects, then that’s why you are running out of space. Use the media tool to find media from the old projects and delete it, and you should get your space back.

    good luck,
    Carl

I definitely need to check on the media files. I will try what you said…my fingers are crossed. Thanks for the help!
