November 13, 2011 at 3:54 pm in reply to: How to speed up my workflow

I work in broadcast, which has tight deadlines, so you learn to make decisions quickly. In that respect, I don’t linger on specific edits, I find what works, cut it, and move to the next edit.

I always try and “cover black”, you can always go back and fix, improve it. but if a deadline is looming, you at least have something to air.

Over time you get used to evaluating shots and forming quick edits in your head as you see your clips during preview.

Be confident in your decisions… as an editor you will make hundreds a day. Second guessing yourself over every cut, will slow you down.

You missed the subtlety. My post is a direct quote of your own words from a previous post aimed at me. I was simply trying got be difficult, as you seem to think that your words are the only words that deserve to be heard.

If I had posted a comment as yours, I am sure your holier-than-thou response would be, again, scolding me for adding nothing significant to the conversation.

I could really careless what your response to this post might be, as I doubt I will ever look at it or anything else with your name attached.

[David Roth Weiss] “[Kevin Patrick] “Apple would never drop something like that. It’s too import, to too many of their customers.”

    Famous last words…

George Armstrong Custer said something similar to his cavalry troops too, and look what happened to them.

I ask you to please explain, how exactly does your post “further” the ongoing discussion in any way other than to add unwanted or unneeded noise and distraction?

[David Roth Weiss] “Smoke isn’t an editing tool, it’s a finishing tool. Matching action isn’t really needed in Smoke by the time most projects arrive in a Smoke suite.

Funny because I have been editing in Smoke for 6 years. Never conformed an edit. Never imported an EDL. And I can edit well with 1 viewer.

September 21, 2011 at 5:34 pm in reply to: Are there any 3rd Party Programs that can use FCPX XML?

I think the SDKs for the FCPXML just hit 3rd party venders. So “soon” is a fairly vague timeframe. I would guess months.

If by FULL SCREEN you mean on your mac monitor, then it probably does look worse. Your original footage is 720×576 your mac monitor is much larger. Therefore the pixels are being enlarged and distorted.

If you look at it in a native 720×576 resolution player, it will probably look ok.
