  • Are there any 3rd Party Programs that can use FCPX XML?

    I browsed through the forums and understand FCPX brand XML is a different flavor. So are there any programs out there yet (besides FCPX) that can use it? And if not, how long are we going to have to wait?

    The ability to assign audio was a great step forward for my need, though since I would no longer be able to use Soundtrack, FCPX does need a mixer ASAP so I can at least do some basic mixing without having to go out to Pro Tools or Logic every time I need it.

    I’ll probably still wait until the next upgrade to purchase FCPX (as I just blew my budget on the half-price Adobe Production Suite). Still it warms my heart to see FCPX taking steps in the right direction –though after immersing myself in After Effects, I’ll probably never use Motion again except for quick and dirty title generation.

    It appears there is some success with using CatDV. Thread here;

    I haven’t had a chance to try it yet. Let me know if you come up with anything else. It would appear Square Box (the makers of CatDV) are one of the preferred third party vendors for FCPX. They are listed here;

    I’ve heard it’ll be working with DaVinci Resolve lite versions and I believe full version as well very shortly.

    Also Autodesk Smoke.

    I think the SDKs for the FCPXML just hit 3rd party venders. So “soon” is a fairly vague timeframe. I would guess months.

    Yeah the onus is on developers at this point. So if you really want to see it happen for a particular app, let the developers of it know. That said, the XML spec they’ve put out for X is fairly streamlined and simple to understand. Shouldn’t be moving mountains for a dev with experience in XML integration.
